Noobie question - Portals to islands

I have opened a portal to another island (seond island) from my home island (first island). If I want to go to another island (third island), do I need to find the portal on the second island and take it to a third island or can I reprogram the portal on my home (first) island to go to different islands?

there is a map that lets you fast travel to any island you want. and you need to find a portal to open the third island. Also some islands have more than one portal, each one opening a path to a differt new island.

Hit M for the world map. As far as portals: yes, you have to unlock portals on every new island. If you hit M, you can see how many portals each new place has. You can also build a Compass fairly early game that, when put in the hotbar, can be "used" to give a visual direction notification of which way to go for a portal.

The compass has to be used, not just selected. It will go into cooldown, and show glowing little lights around your character. head in the direction the lights are in. The wider the area around you, the closer you are, until the lights basically surround you. They will not give a height notifier, so if you are surrounded by the lights, either climb or dig.

Hi - If you press M on your keyboard, you can open a map, which will allow you to revisit any islands you've already unlocked.

Thanks. I know about the Map accessed by M but wasn't sure if I had to discover an island directly before I could access it with the Map.
