Awesome game, but this is one of the few development choices that really puzzles me.
Your argument would make sense to me if I were able to set the backpack down and swim or take of my armor and swim but as I already mentioned taking off the armor does nothing to enable swimming, nor does emptying my backpack.
But the bottom line is I'm not here to debate rationalizations to support a broken game mechanic. I don't have time to build a "breath platform" while I'm being attacked by the monsters waiting at the bottom of the lake, nor is mining my way out very often practical either. In some cases I have time to do those things, but just as often not.
I'm not sure what your point is Firestar by pointing out that you can "also die via monsters." Combat is a skill that is part of the reason I play this game. Inexplicable water mechanics that defy all logic is a non-skill based and simply frustrating way to die. There is, for example, no way I can craft water-proof armor, level up "swimming," or dodge my way out of a deep trench. The developers could make it so that you sunk right through soil and suffocated too, but that wouldn't add anything fun to the game or even make sense would it? It's no different here. I hope they do more to create challenge in the worlds in FUN ways, and fix the broken water mechanic.
Some lakes will have air platform at tthe bottom so you can fight or explore underwatter.
That for me was a good challange and enjoyed having to think how I could get rid of the water.
I dont think the water mechanic is broken as you can get rid of it. I guess its more that the person should be able to swim or like craft some sort of breathing aparatus even if it needed some spell manner to keep it topped up. Then you could progress in spell power to stay under longer.
I am not to far into the game to have used spells so not sure if you can use spells to enable breathing under water.
The Minecraft player in me knows that in voxel worlds, water physics usually suck. Part of the fun is indeed figuring out how those rules behave, however wonky, and work with them, beat them. I do think that the way water works in PK is a little "weird." It's not impossible to work with nor unplayable, as some others here seem to tend towards, but it doesn't help my belief in the world's "laws." It doesn't make a lot of sense for water to have no effect other than to make you jump really high or drown. Neither your movement speed affected, something that hurts the water's raison d'etre (other than to be pretty, and it is pretty.)
Devs, something needs to change. You guys might be working on a fix already, and if so, good on you. You'll add more greatness to a great game. But as it is now, I'd rather have water than no water, but only barely.
There are craftable potions to give yourself more air underwater.
Thanks, now that is good to know. I sincerely appreciate the tip.
Although the bottom line is the developers clearly wanted to impliment quicksand, but got it confused with water. Some sort of suit to allow you to breath underwater would at least allow one to get around the issue, but a temporary potion is no kind of fix.
I simply will never understand why a developer would think that sinking in water is a good idea. It's far too simplistic to make a enjoyable engineering/brain challenge, but far too obnoxious to ignore.
I guess it will just have to be one of those things where I say, "well I can throw a fit about it or just overlook the game's flaws for its good points."
(Oh who am I kidding, a fit is way more fun! :-)
