Why add water if can' t swim?
I get adding water to the worlds and biomes, but some maps become unplayable if you cant swim to next island/land areas. Both my kids and I enjoyed playing this game at first but it becomes tiresome when you cannot even explore without drowning or being ganked trying to reach land since water has been added. Hope this gets addressed soon

You can dig your way out of a water hazard. I do hope the dev adds some swimming mechanic though.

I just feel I have to add my vote to this. Water could have been a great addition to the game, but without the ability to swim I think I might rather NOT have it. It's already enough of a pain in the arse that pretty much every single map has countless ways to fall into an endless abyss without having to drop like a rock everytime I step into deep water and drown while I'm trying to fight off the enemies at the bottom because I can't simply swim back to shore. Besides which, it just makes no sense. Is my character made of iron or something? It's not the armor, because I can take it off and still sink.

Awesome game, but this is one of the few development choices that really puzzles me.

I'm not a fan of the water nechanics either. Why can't I swim to the surface? It's kinda dumb TBH

It's so you can drown.

You can also die via monsters or being greedy trying to mine ore and drowning.

I like the water mechanics and you could say that you are not able to swim as you have armour / back pack full of stuff and a weapon in your hand. So there is no way you could swim with all that stuff. Just carry enough blocks to build a breath platform .

Inflatable Life Vest™ Inflate it to rise to the surface, deflate to sink. That's what we need if we can't swim. ;)

Your argument would make sense to me if I were able to set the backpack down and swim or take of my armor and swim but as I already mentioned taking off the armor does nothing to enable swimming, nor does emptying my backpack.

But the bottom line is I'm not here to debate rationalizations to support a broken game mechanic. I don't have time to build a "breath platform" while I'm being attacked by the monsters waiting at the bottom of the lake, nor is mining my way out very often practical either. In some cases I have time to do those things, but just as often not.

I'm not sure what your point is Firestar by pointing out that you can "also die via monsters." Combat is a skill that is part of the reason I play this game. Inexplicable water mechanics that defy all logic is a non-skill based and simply frustrating way to die. There is, for example, no way I can craft water-proof armor, level up "swimming," or dodge my way out of a deep trench. The developers could make it so that you sunk right through soil and suffocated too, but that wouldn't add anything fun to the game or even make sense would it? It's no different here. I hope they do more to create challenge in the worlds in FUN ways, and fix the broken water mechanic.

Trick : dig into a nearby wall or if possibl bottom of lake to your hight + 1 block then start diging sideways. water does not instantly fill intot he hole you dug as you move into the new shaft your diggin your air will replenish.

Some lakes will have air platform at tthe bottom so you can fight or explore underwatter.

Perhaps some of the challange is you have to think of a different way to traverse water hazards and get to the bottom of the lakes. In one of the worlds I dug a trench from the massive lake to a dungeon that had one of those drains and let the water then drain using my trench into the dungeon and the water then drained away. This allowed me to get to the bottom of the lake and mine further.

That for me was a good challange and enjoyed having to think how I could get rid of the water.

I dont think the water mechanic is broken as you can get rid of it. I guess its more that the person should be able to swim or like craft some sort of breathing aparatus even if it needed some spell manner to keep it topped up. Then you could progress in spell power to stay under longer.

I am not to far into the game to have used spells so not sure if you can use spells to enable breathing under water.

The Minecraft player in me knows that in voxel worlds, water physics usually suck. Part of the fun is indeed figuring out how those rules behave, however wonky, and work with them, beat them. I do think that the way water works in PK is a little "weird." It's not impossible to work with nor unplayable, as some others here seem to tend towards, but it doesn't help my belief in the world's "laws." It doesn't make a lot of sense for water to have no effect other than to make you jump really high or drown. Neither your movement speed affected, something that hurts the water's raison d'etre (other than to be pretty, and it is pretty.)

Devs, something needs to change. You guys might be working on a fix already, and if so, good on you. You'll add more greatness to a great game. But as it is now, I'd rather have water than no water, but only barely.

Cube World has pretty decent swimming animation. With that they can make a waterworld like level from it. New swimming monsters, water boss, boat houses, etc..

There are craftable potions to give yourself more air underwater.

Thanks, now that is good to know. I sincerely appreciate the tip.

Although the bottom line is the developers clearly wanted to impliment quicksand, but got it confused with water. Some sort of suit to allow you to breath underwater would at least allow one to get around the issue, but a temporary potion is no kind of fix.

I simply will never understand why a developer would think that sinking in water is a good idea. It's far too simplistic to make a enjoyable engineering/brain challenge, but far too obnoxious to ignore.

I guess it will just have to be one of those things where I say, "well I can throw a fit about it or just overlook the game's flaws for its good points."

(Oh who am I kidding, a fit is way more fun! :-)

Maybe can be done like in Terraria. There you sink in the water, but if you equip the flippers accesory you can swim. Also you have more accesories which give more air or speed or light while underwater.
