staves are still second to immortal titanium (in regards to spells; poison rain), but atleast have a niche in their elemental variety and aoe
the swords also have niche uses imo, they fall short dps wise compared to titanium sun cleaver or titanium fist but the elemental affinity and spell resistance makes them a good option for certain encounters (notably the electro sword against the artic dragon countess)
the light sword/bow are also the best option for clearing out fallen mages as a warrior/ranger (only other option being light bomb, which with poor mana management and int is going to be annoying to last hit with)
In either case a lot of gear needs an item revamp so that may help things out a bit.
