Can you please specify what hardware are you using and which linux version have you installed? I tested on a 2007 cheap 32-bit laptop with the latest Ubuntu installed and everything worked fine. You should hear screams, hitting and dying sounds even when the music volume option is turned off. The music option is meant to mute the death metal soundtrack only. Again, thank you so much for the feedback and I hope the link will help you hear the morbid sounds!
It's a pretty generic 64-bit lenovo business laptop (x1 carbon gen 2) with whatever onboard intel sound chip goes these days, running ubuntu 14.04:

I don't know if Fedora & Ubuntu use similar sound setups, it seems they are both Gnome/Unity, but that link is from 2013 & references packages ubuntu got rid of in 2012:

It looks like the game is using specifically 32-bit libraries?
What 32-bit libraries are required?
I don't know enough about cross-architecture c crap to get ld to tell me what it is looking for, is there a command other than the following that will tell me what it is trying to link to?
kenneth@x1:~$ ld ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Stones\ of\ Sorrow/StonesofSorrow.x86
ld: i386 architecture of input file `/home/kenneth/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Stones of Sorrow/StonesofSorrow.x86' is incompatible with i386:x86-64 output
ld: error in /home/kenneth/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Stones of Sorrow/StonesofSorrow.x86(.eh_frame); no .eh_frame_hdr table will be created.
ld: warning: cannot find entry symbol _start; defaulting to 0000000000409ac0
Thanks for your help, looking forward to playing with sound!
Thank you so much for hanging on in there and giving me all the feedback and info about your machine. I really appreciate it and am deeply sorry that you can not hear any of the vile sounds yet.
I had some problems with the Unity x86_64 builds on Windows 7 and decided to go the x86 way (32 bit version built with Unity 4.3.4f1) on all platforms to be absolutely sure everything works. Now it turns out the 32 bit Linux build on 64 bit systems has no sounds. Next time I'll use the universal export feature and upgrade Stones of Sorrow do a x86+x86_64 (Universal) Linux build with the next patch.
Thank you so much and long live the brutality!
