More to the point, there is no noticeable difference between AVP Gold Edition and AVP Classic 2000 that I've noticed save for the changes to multiplayer.
The only major differences of any aspect of gameplay between Classic 2000 and the game's previous iterations (that I have noticed) are: 1) some of the cheat options (such as MotionBlur and TripTastic) don't work properly in the Classic 2000 edition, and 2) the human auras that the alien sees in single-player shift colors between blue, red, and green in Classic 2000 rather than stay blue as they did in the previous versions.
Gamespy is not an example. It's an option that used to be available with AvP Gold, and isn't available with AvP Classic 2000.
