Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000

Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000

Alien Vs. Predator Gold retail question.
I got AVP 2k on GOG, but they removed LAN. I then proceeded to find and buy the retail gold version of the game. So then I go and install a fan patch for our modern computers being that it is a windows 98/2000/XP game. The fan patch also removes LAN. Short of actually putting together 3 windows 98 computers is it possible to get this to work with windows 7/Vista AND play LAN? Thanks in advance guys.

You sure gog removed LAN?
I thought gog allowed multi even using gogs own optional client AND allowed gog and steam owners of this game to fight each other?

On that basis, i cant believe the LAN aspect would be stripped out.

This will get LAN to work on regular AVP Gold. I've seen it.

GOG's version of AVP Classic is essentially a port of the Steam version, which stripped away all the original multiplayer options (TCP/IP, Serial, Modem, MPlayer). Because of that, the GOG version also does not have LAN. GOG's Galaxy client and the Steam-GOG Crossplay are categorically different from LAN.

Yeah that's what I thought. GOG seems to be less and less fixed on DRM free, so to get around it they stripped it. Even Divinity Original sin you need two copies to LAN.

Basically it removes the option, you can try to join my TCP/IP but you just get no servers and stuff but actually hosting a LAN game is impossible. Like really? Do we need to remove the LAN feature of a game that on the back of the box says "LAN play with up to 8 people!" and that is over a decade old. Like for real.

I actually have the discs, for the original, and gold edition.
I keep remembering the days of how AVP should be, not the recent stuff.
So, If I install the 'Gold' edition, there is a steam community for this?
Funny thing, it was when Lamespy dropped it's support of AVP Gold,
I no longer had a reason to use their services.

Where would they be, if they had made the smart move?

I did this and it worked fine, however only in our computers in which had ATI cards. This trick doesn't seem to work with Nvidia cards (Shocker.)
