D3DGear - Game Recording and Streaming

Wonderful recording software, I replaced FRAPS with it.
Just wanted to say thanks to the Devs for this great little software. I used fraps to record my gameplay for years namely because it was easy to use and reliable. However the file sizes were mammoth, 2 hours of recording could easily use up 500gb on my hard drive.

I've tried Dxtory and Bandicam, and they were ok, but often resulted in videos with strange glitches for me (I know they worked well for others though). They also caused a significant framerate loss in games.

Tried the demo for D3dgear for a few hours and did some video editing of the files it made. The quality is excellent (and adjustable) and the filesize is a fraction of what fraps made (namely since fraps didn't compress video as it recorded). And the best part is I don't seem to lose more then 2 to 3 fps in most games, where even fraps would cause me to lose 5-8 usually.

Anyway, it's working great and I'm super happy to have bought it. My hard drive will have so much more room on it and my video recordings will be a lot easier. Thanks :)

(I haven't tried the streaming tool since I don't stream, but I suspect it works well also).

i'm sure most of the people on this forum are ex-frap users as well (including me) D3DGear is definitely something special when you had to use Fraps before:tgrin:

Yep I had used fraps for years as well along with many other capture applications both free & paid. Fraps made great videos but like Hathur said those video outputs were huge in file size. D3DGear is much better & uses a lot less resources & space. I have both versions of this application, and even promote it on my site. Its a great application!

I really enjoy D3D Gear as well and have used it off and on since 2012 or so. The program may not be quite as flashy or versatile, but it uses far less CPU and othe resources than OBS or XSplit or even Bandicam (which I think is the other competitor for FRAPS).

One benefit this has is that in regards to H.264 (hardware codec), the coding for D3D Gear allows you to encode beyond 1920x1080 at 60 FPS, and most other applications are limited to standard 1080p with H.264. You could try ultra-HD resolutions with XVID or X264, but you'd have massive lag spikes that could ruin a video (been there before).

On the down side, though, I think this program needs two major functionalities:

1. I'd like a better overlay interface, rather than having to manually enter resolution locations for a webcam or image overlay. Even Bandicam can do a bit better than that.

2. I'd like the ability to set a "max bitrate" for a video. At resolutions like 2560x1440, even on "Good" quality you are looking at 100,000+ kbps, and on "Best" it's around 200,000+. This isn't a huge issue, but it's still a very large file output and it can cause post-production lag in the output video at times, so I hope they add that feature in.

Hi Cosmicade,

Can you check if you are using latest D3DGear 4.97? There was some twitch.tv streaming issues, but they were fixed already last month.
