Is the Papaya version worth playing?
I played this game on launch and lurked for it years before it came out after playing ragnarok online for several years, I was pretty sad how this evolved and heard about the Papaya Version beeing not p2w, could someone give me further insight if it's worth picking up their version?

As a new player to ToS, I'd say yes. I've had a good time so far and there are a lot of players leveling and in the main towns. If I were you though, I go to the Papaya version discord and try to join an english speaking guild. Lots of Brazilian on this server so reaching out for help is kind of difficult and the game does not give a new or returning player much direction or help in understanding systems in game. GL

What exactly you like about the game?
If you are like me, play the game due to theory crafting with different classes and stats, then no. The game has more focused with gear progression for their money making strategy. You are really enjoying the initial levels, after that, it is gear check contents.

yea after that i'll prolly zone out then, i've seen the pattern with these older mmos, this is why the industry needs to stop vertical progression, it also wastes too much assets

I've tried the papaya servers, it's great so far but lets see how far that goes with the current monetizing, it's less p2w but boosters and all that stuff are still there and you can still sell stuff from the cash shop to the auction house which is technically still enough p2w as long you can get ingame currency by exchanging it with rl money.

The verticallity is a real problem, I honestly miss monthly subscriptions with no cash shop existent at all, people got too greedy in the last years getting an edge over other players with money, as a result the market changed drastically and mmos in the last few years got nearly unplayable casually. Oh well not that we can end that spiral as long these type of guys exist, have seen enough people walking around on the papaya server with lots of loot box cosmetics which is a whole other problem, that loot boxes are still not forbidden worldwide since it falls under the casino clauses, at least some countries got that, but not all unfortunately. As such greed is prevalent we are not able to recover from this market anytime soon.

The PS is ten times better than this and they don't try to rip off American players in the cash shop.
