So, I paid to play this while it was in beta, and now I've downloaded it again to start playing with my gf, turns out this problem is stopping me to get into the game.

No. I'm not using a Virtual Machine, but I do use virtual machines/hyper-v (docker) for my work, so turning this off isn't an option.

This doesn't even makes sense since the game isn't running <inside> a virtual machine. It's just annoying.

Is there any way to solve this?

No unfortunately; I ran into this situation when they first instituted the VM check in early December. The team is aware of the situation and is looking for workarounds. If you enabled the Hyper-V hypervisor on your Windows install, you'll run into this problem, even if you're not playing on a guest VM. (Not a problem with other VM host solutions, just Hyper-V.) They are aware of the unreasonable overhead of uninstalling/reinstalling Hyper-V, but right now, that's the only workaround.

You can try filing a support ticket on the actual ToS site to let them know that you are also affected. Otherwise, I believe that most people never enable Hyper-V in the first place, so it's probably not a very high priority issue in the end.

I "fixed" the problem. Basically duplicated my main boot entry and disabled the hypervisor on it. So if I want to play I can just restart the computer and boot into "no-hyperv" one.

Just my thought:

People who wants to bot, WILL bot, and this is just annoying for normal players. Invest in machine learning and prevention algorithms on the server side (that actually detects and bans the cheaters), but please don't mess with the user experience with crappy/cheap "checks" that doesn't work at all.
