Unofficial Steam Patch for Evil Genius

Introduction
This patch contains the following things:
- All the files you would need from both the official US and EU Patch, carefully hand-picked and tested for use in the Steam version (also see: Readme.txt).
- Contents of the freely available Bonus CD, which is not included in the Steam version.
- Unofficial Patch 1.2, which was originally made for the non-Steam version (also see: Unofficial Patch 1.2.txt).

It fixes things like the infamous "LOAD AND SAVE"-localization issue much talked about on the Steam forums, but also enables users to toggle the Developer Mode, which has some interesting commands to use.

Installation
Just extract it to "<Steam Installation Path>/steamapps/common/evil genius", overwrite files where needed (don't worry, the original files are still there with a .bak extension) and you're done.

Uninstallation
There are multiple ways to do this. One is to snoop through all files in this archive and manually delete them and revert the .bak files back to their original extensions. Or a much better and cleaner option would be to delete all local content through Steam and redownload the game.

FAQ
How is this different from the other tutorials on the forums?
Well, other than it being a "read-to-go" package, there are a few fundamental differences. For example it includes a pre-configured Developer Mode, doesn't include the ReleaseEXE-directory (which people want you to overwrite in the other tutorials) and files are carefully handpicked and modified to work with the Steam version (mostly localization files, though). Besides that, this patch also respects the Spanish version of the game, rather than overwriting it.

How do I use this "Developer Mode" you talk about?
Press CTRL+D in-game, then ~ to open the console. I'm sure you'll figure out the rest yourself.

Does this patch allows em to enable wide-screen support?

Do note though that this fix introduces some bugs like not being able to ALT+Tab and random crashes, but then again, you do get a wide-screen game in return.

Yep! Thats why i want to "resurrect" the game, to make kt playable on newest windows, to make hype even stronger! If Evil Genius 2 will be as good as one. It diserves all the money in the world!

let's hope so. Gotta be careful with hyping games in 2017, a lot of franchises devolve instead of evolving and money grabbing tactics are used from overload microtransactions to plain out cash grabbing.

Hi.

I'm facing an issue (only after using this patch and associated stuff, didn't have this issue with retail version) that I can't find the 3rd totem pole piece. I know where its supposed to appear, and I have the requisite notoriety; I have had all other totem pole pieces appear already including the 4th and last one. Anyone facing this issue? Any ideas?

UPDATE: Ooopss I just didn't plot enough in the 3rd totem's location...my bad.

As far as a sequel goes, it's generally referred to as a 'cult classic' so they'll probably either a) stay true to the original thematically and try make it more accessable to new buyers too, or b) shoot for an entirely new audience and reinvent it. Or something else :P
Either way, I still have my original disks and am hanging out for the sequel!

Tweaks after opticq combined all of the above:

No intro screens at all
Video Hints turned off by default
Auto saving turned off by default (to prevent bug that occurs when an autosave happens when a cursor is over the research button)
Max population is 200 (like in Unofficial Patch - this was the only overlapping tweak between Ratchet302's Patch and the Unofficial Patch"

That's from the page, DL is throttled to 100kb/sec which sucks a fair bit.

UD-Patch works fine, bigger pop cap means minion crowds sometimes, all the better to evil genius aura them though. Had to use Unecessary Umlauts fix for windowed mode cause the steam shortcut crashed it and the launch option did nothing. This is quoted below for convenience...

"1 Go to http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/404-evil-genius-pcgamingwiki-patch/ and download the patch.
2 Unzip it. Go to www.winzip if you don't already have winzip. Install Winzip and use it to unzip the three folders contained in the patch.
3 Copy the three folders you just unzipped to the main Evil Genius directory (which should be something like Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/Evil Genius, When it asks if you want to replace/overwrite the files, say yes. If it doesn't ask you if you want to overwrite/replace the files then you are not putting the folders in the right directory. Repeat step 3 again.
4 Download Borderless Gaming app https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases and install it.
5 Start Evil Genius.
6 Tab out of Evil Genius and Start the Borderless Gaming app. Eg should be listed in the Borderless Gaming apps window.
7 Evil Genius now runs in fullscreen. You will have to start EG then BG whenever you play. You can delete Winzip if you don't need it for anything else.

Is this megapatch still the best one to use? Only the gamepressure link seems to work and it's *very very* slow and unreliable to download. I'm on my second attempt and it's taking forever.

In answer to my own question: The megapatch is great on top of the vanilla Steam version. If you're playing via Wine then you just need to set d3d9 to native to get the new resolutions working (which you set in resolution.ini)

I'm playing at 3440x1440 and it's rock solid stable as long as I don't alt-tab or otherwise remove the focus.

Very nice been playing a few hours with no problems, exept the alt tab crash which isnt that big a deal for me. Thanks for this.

Isn't it about time they added the domination pack to the steam version. I can't get these links to work now and Blackheart is one of the better henchmen.
