When you are ready to move to Island 2, ALWAYS do all acts of infamy that give a physical reward. This is because as you get them, they unlock research for our scientists to do.
It may be painful, but sit and wait around for your scientists to research things. Once you make the move, research will initially go a lot slower, because you won't have any rooms or items built, and all your minions will be running around building things

If you want to complete the optional objective of the Totem Pole also do this before the move to Island 2. If you try and complete it afterwards the individual pieces won't merge together and you'll be left with pieces that drain your minions stats

If you're ever stuck or you just can't seem to get that last pesky objective or research item, check out http://www.n1nj4.com/EvilPlanet/TheGame/tips.php
Another thing I tend to do is when tranning adv mions, (ie, Snipers Martial artiests, Diplomats etc.) I would sacrifice a another minion like a worker so their smarts and health don't depleat.
proprotip> kill all enemy agents and enjoy fighting an endless island battle, right click the alert button to mute the siren...
The game caps you at 100 minions which tbh makes the game a bit annoying, try setting it to at least 200 to make the game more enjoyable or you will have lots of empty rooms.
I like to cap at 800 this is my poplulation.ini found in the steamapps\common\Evil Genius\DynamicResources\Config folder , you can replace whatevers in yours with it. I designed it to not give you too much pop at the start, you will prob be at around 200 by island 2.

when you move islands put all but 20-30 workers on a mission in the antarctic on hiding, or you will have serious difficulty getting things going, also only steal the uberloot and totem poles before the second island or you will probably lose it.
Also before moving to the second island you might want to build sentry guns to protect your escape if you have any super agents about, set the agents to capture or they take ages to knock out.
To keep heat low I like to build a hotel with only one door that leads through many internal doors to a single baccarat table, I don't why its so satisfying when the agent sits down to play after unlocking 15 doors. I have another hotel with hotel rooms, dance floors and benches since they dont take a minion to use.
As soon as infiltrators get past your entrance you want to kill them, the most annoying thing is when one gets into one of your rooms and blows everything up. The way to keep most people out without killing them is to not build a door on your entrance and use a wind trap to blow them out.
Finally placing your strong room deep inside your base can make it easy to protect but can make your orders take too long as minions have to reach it to take money out, its best placed near the entrance, you can use cameras and a control room to quickly respond to people reaching it, put a control room on high staffing to act as a guard room.
Actually one more thing, only put things with heat inside your base, you can use the huts for beds, library desks, drinks machines. This gives you alot more space inside your base and keeps your minions from cluttering up the place on high population, you will eventually unlock a mess hall item that can fit in a hut.
This is a 200 pop one from the internet I sometimes use. You might want to start with it if you're new to the game as you need to have really efficient room designs for the higher pops because they will basiclly get stuck and take time to path.
