Since this game is being given away from free to hype the sequel and this post is one of the first from Google on the topic of resolution fixes, there may be more people coming here looking for a fix but not knowing where to place the .zip files since it isn't discussed here.

1. Download the Universal Resolution Changer and extract it to <path-to-game>\ReleaseExe
2. Open resolution.ini and set the desired values.

Hello ! I have tried to download that fix, even the one on Ratchet302, unofficial patch, official patch, already tried everything, but even after that I modified the file "resolution.ini" with proper resolution (1920x1080), the game still luanch on low resolution. When I go in options, the maximum is something like 1280 for the resolution, but not higher.

I've tried to contact the support but they answered me with a standard answer.

Do you have any idea ? Didn't find anything on internet. being a bit sad since I was playing this game when I was younger.

Even though it says thats the resolution in 99% sure it is actually displaying at 1080p as my monitor is saying it is. But for some reason with this patch fix everytime i tab out the game crashes, makes me think the games trying to get back to that resolution and fails, hence a crash :(

Not sure yet but i believe it change to 800x600 resolution and cant handle widescreen. Check this file after trying: steamapps\common\Evil Genius\DynamicResources\Config\Current.opt
there you can see which res you have used at least.

Im still testing to get widescreen res or possible best res.

in the config file where you changed the resolution
Set
window Mode from 0 to 1
download Borderless Gaming tool so you can make the game fullscreen with that tool and now youre able to alt tab as you like

File works a treat. I've also bumped up all the graphical settings in Nvidia control panel and its looking great!

Thanks for the answer. I've tried to apply all patches as explained (even bellow), and I got few more questions :
- first one, I applied the unofficial patch, and I only got english texts by now (with few german words, especially the warning messages in the menu).
I've seen this on the patch tutorial "A patch for the English version of the game which includes the bonus content and other official changes. If another language is being used then delete the Language folder located in DynamicResources\Custom\Language to play in the native language." that I tried, but I do not have that path.
The only one I found was "D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Evil Genius\DynamicResources\Patch\Language".
I assumed it was that one, so I deleted the folder "EN" (actually, I renamed it to find it back if necessary) but nothing changed, any ideas ?

- second one, the game still seems to launch in 1280x... (opened the file Current.opt to notice that), even after applying all the patches. I've tried to modify the default profiles "high, medium, low" to force the game to launch in 1920*1080 but nothing worked

Yes i was wrong. File works as intended.
current.opt seems to change to 800 because the program did not know widescreen ressoulutions.
Like @-VG- Napster wrote you can proof with setting window mode 0 to 1.

Do you want to hear radio broadcasts? add this lines:

But for henchmen or genius sounds i dont know names. PlayHenchmen?PlayEvil?

"Universal Resolution Changer" works like a charm for 32:9 super ultra wide display, no FOV distortion. The only issue is that you'll get stretched user interface (buttons, menu, videos...) but the game itself is perfect.

Just open resolution.ini and edit these lines like that
Width=3840
Height=1080

(no other customization needed, leave the other lines as they are)

The fixes don't seem to work now. I've installed the patch as I did before (long time player) and installed the universal res changer, I don't have Discord open but I still get D3D error. So until this changes I don't think I'll play again :(
