It was part of a patch a long time ago, where they slowed down everyone's movement speed a tiny bit while boosting melee reach by a little. It's definitely made stealth an imperfect solution, not helped by the game's tendency to spin you around when a new sound in the game is played and cached. Granted, you have that same reach too, but yeah it doesn't feel quite right to be hitting stuff with the invisible wind coming off your weapon.
You can only really get away with an "ambush" once per enemy. Past that, it's instant melee hits for you. Meaning if they saw you somewhere else before, that's it, no more safe stealth with that enemy if you don't paralyze.
I mostly shrug that off because I play Mechanist, the class that specializes in not being in the same room as his enemies so there's none of that long-reach nonsense going on.
Could you elaborate on this statement a bit more, please? I am new to the game and have been having quite a time figuring out "melee range". Originally, I was walking up close to MObs to attempt to melee them, but noticed they could hit me from further than I thought they should be able to. I have watched a couple of videos where people were fighting MObs with a fountain between them and the MOb and still hitting them. So, I am a bit confused what the range actually is. Does it differ for weapon types? Do polearms have a greater range to them?
I ask about the FOV because I know that traditionally console games set their FOV to around 60 degrees as it is presumed you will play the game on a larger television screen and sit a few feet away from the screen. However, for most PC games the FOV is usually set a bit higher as the screen is usually smaller and players sit much closer to said screens. I usually up my FOV in my PC games to at least 90 (and have raised it all the way in Barony), but if this is going to affect my perception of melee distance in this game that would be some important information to be made aware of. Especially for a new player still trying to grasp combat in the game.
Any more information would be appreciated.
Thanks.
