How do I get to enjoy the game?
The title is a question but being asked in good faith. I played but bounce but keep coming back.

Do I need multiple people to enjoy the game or is this solo friendly? I saw you can find NPC to follow you to which was cool.

How deep do I got to get to keep my stuff. I mean I saw the option to keep all Loot but without a vender then I drop 90% of it from run to run. I recently got all the DLC and was wondering if there is a class they is solo friendly. I mostly used Wizard but summoner got me to not auto die.

Is the game i intended to basically have even rats kill you in 2 hits?

Some characters are very easily killed due to their low strength, speed, and/or protection value. Yes, even by rats. These characters are best played by experienced players who have a keen awareness of the dungeon's features and the skills available to them. Character classes are rated by their complexity and general survivability in the class info section in the character creation menu.

Wizards are fragile characters who possess powerful magic early in the game to help them survive. Fire is effective on just about any early game monster except for skeletons. A good wizard should stay stealthy until they can improve their AC to a decent level. Cold can slow down pursuers to make escape easier, especially against fast monsters like rats and spiders.

I'm not sure how much practice you have so far, but I think it's best to start with one of the following classes while you get your bearings: Barbarian, Warrior, Cleric, or Monk. These characters are nice and sturdy while having a fairly straightforward playstyle. Every class is viable in solo with practice, but you should probably hold off on playing the DLC characters until you're ready for a challenge; most of them are pretty advanced.
Every class in this game is solo friendly, this game just has a very steep learning curve.

Play the tutorial, if you haven't already. It's long, but it'll teach you everything you need to know.

Play slowly, and explore each level to the best of your ability in the early game. Ideally, you want to give yourself the best start possible and use that momentum to snowball into unkillable-ness.

Learn about the Secret areas and artifacts, there are plenty of guides on the internet to help you out.

Try blocking as much as you can, even on classes with low blocking skill. Especially in the early game, where 5 HP can mean the difference between life and death.

Monk and Conjurer are great classes for beginners. Monks are super tanky, and not having to worry about hunger or degradation in the early game is great. Plus, they have the Light spell and early casting levels, in case you happen upon some good spells and want to add some spice to your fisting.

Conjurers, thanks to their good Con scaling, are among the tankiest of all mages. On top of that, you have a small (2 person) on-demand army of facetanks at your beck and call. The lack of weapon skills in the early game can hurt, but its not so bad once you get your footing.

The "Keep All Loot Upon Death" toggle only works in multiplayer, btw. They really should clarify that.

Well that sucks, honestly after playing a solid 30 minutes I had a momment thinking, "OMG this is basically just dungeon crawling from elder scrolls dagger fall."

That's why I said this was in good faith. The game really is interesting, just not something I normally play. It's been a long time since I played a put dungeon crawl experience. The secret update has made things more enjoyable. As it's always fun to break stuff. Yet scary as a bat or slime might pop out of a box instead of a bit of vender trash.
I honestly find the game's easier solo than multiplayer. XP (and loot, of course) is split between players, which can make things slightly more difficult.

Barony is a game where a solid knowledge base and experience is the most vital tool for survival. You, as a wizard, could melee everyone in the Mines to death without taking a hit, you just gotta know how and get those reflexes down. It's a game that takes some doin'. Give it time.

I recommend turning off Minotaur spawning. All it does is punish players who can’t speed run or who are slow to read/interact with the inventory, etc. You will die a lot, and that is perfectly okay. You may also want to turn off boulders if you find them too cheap. The vast majority of my deaths are due to unfortunately stopping right under a boulder trap without realizing it until it was too late.

Yea i already turned of Minotaur because I read they were kinda BS. Debating on the bolder. Yea they are BS but at the same time they help keep that fear the early game seems good at making. Kinda like teaching you only open the inventory in a room where you can lock the door. Or die to random monster finding you.

I'd recommend giving the Minotaur a good few runs before deciding if you like him or not. I don't mind him; he usually gives plenty of time to get what you need on a floor and get out, and figuring out if i can kill him on that floor or not is always a fun minigame.

Conjurer is pretty good for beginners, i would also recommend warrior for learning how melee combat works. You can for sure solo the game, you just gotta learn a lot.

Since nobody has mentioned it yet, maybe try using the recently-added assist shrine to start with an item that'll help overcome some of the difficulty. The Ring of Resolve or Cloak of the Guardian in particular can help you survive a few more hits while you practice blocking, or fleeing when you discover you're outclassed in melee.

These kinds of games are traditionally quite difficult. Some in the genre have things that carry over across different playthroughs but as far as I'm aware this isn't one of them.

Correct, it is a classic rouge like, not a rougelite. The only thing that carries over is your knowledge of items/secret levels, etc.
