If you get a magic reflection ring or two u can reflect his magic blasts. Make choure your usely a wizard magic bolts hurt him a decent amount. I came insanelyclose to kill 3 merchants on the third one my reflection ring wor off mid fight and I died. I then fliped a table T__T I hope this helps any look for extra gear on a adventure. Hell if I would have killed that third one I be over here braging about how i beat the game sence the merchant had epic gear and the other had food I wouldn't starve and I could kill anything.

Another way to kill a merchant if u hit him and have him chase u to a bolder trap u can run past the bolder trap and the bolder will fall behind and crush him

Also reflection rings is the way to beat the goniom mines. Sence they use light magic. But if u have a magic reflection ring it reserves their attacks.
