Thanks, IDK I just never really enjoyed hunger systems in games
OK ok yes yes yes that is all true.
Heres what I don't like about baronys food system.
Ok so for me a dungeon crawling RPG is fun because it starts you off as a weak little character, with the RPG sense you can create your own custom "build" or "playstyle" or what have you. But it starts you off weak, with garbage items/tools at your disposal, and you have to make smart decission to increase your chances of survival and chances to snowball into a stronger character. Making smart decission is the whole fun of an RPG. Hence why all the good rpgs are turn based, because you can take your time to make these crucial, step by step, second by second decissions. Also a nice combat system is like the second most important thing (for me, of course). But the food system seems to muddle the whole idea of taking your time and making smart decissions. You feel rushed and have to just pick randomly what you do when it comes to combat or engaging enemies. Its more about engaging the cheese than engaging the goblins or whatever.
And I know what your saying "but OP, the food system adds new and different decissions to make" And from the majority of what I've seen managing the food system and making good decissions there pretty much over-rides any other decission in the game and food becomes the most important thing :/ and basically if you just dont starve for long enough and casual sift through the game our lord and saviour RNjesus will bestow upon you good loot. And therefore food = Priority. If I wanted a feeding simulation for my character I would play the latest sims game.
I'm not trying to ♥♥♥♥ on your game :(
But you know what dammit you encouraged me to not judge the system without playing it, and I voiced my opinion like a jackass so once i have the 7 bucks I'm going to buy your dank game.
Updates to come bois
*edit* ALSO I'd like to add another thing, because I suck at writing because I'm a peasant. I like to play as the rogue/stealthy class in games like this. And with the food system its gives added stress when I am slowly creeking around the dungeon floor slowly because its like a big countdown timer till death.
In Barony, time is a luxury that can be bought with food.
I understand and respect (and for a lot of games, I share) your interest in a game that lets you sit and think and problem-solve, taking your time. In those games it's your character that gets realy good over time, like you described.
But Barony is more about -you- as the player getting better at the game. It has more heartpounding moments and improvising with surprises than a slower-paced turn-based game, and if you like a game that can give you the opportunity to do that stuff, you just might love it.
Don't be surprised if your first few playthroughs has you managing both your light sources and food as a major concern. However, once you get a few deaths under your belt, you'll be good enough at the game's action that food will rarely be your biggest concern.
Alright I'll let you know when I get the game I might even put up a few youtube videos barony really lacks a solid LP at the moment which saddens my inner rpg nerd.
Having said that food is otherwise a very manageable resource, though the tricks for keeping it at bay are not immediately obvious to most newcomers.
Drinking from fountains and sinks for example is a good way to keep nutrition up, as every drink replenishes some hunger and many drinks can pile up to keeping you fairly full.
Not many people notice that on their first try. :)
Is there a console/cheat command we can use that will disable the hunger system? I really want this game.
Its really not that bad I assure you. And there is no food cheat that I am aware of.
It makes you balance caution/attention with an unrelenting time constraint, in a game with inventory management. Makes you rush and get yourself killed because of the pressure, which feels frustrating rather then difficult.
This is an old old old old old thread. The dev’s added an option in the settings (at the start of the run I think) to turn hunger off. If this option is applied then food heals HP. I like it! Try it out. Let’s you mull over your options more.
Once you advance a bit, if you're looking for it, you'll find plenty of food. It really hasn't been a problem, even when using slower paced classes that required sneaking.
Last time I checked, I thought there was an option to turn hunger off, just like you can turn off the Minotaur feature.
For 15 bucks, it's super worth it, especially if you can get a buddy to pick it up too.
Welp, get ratio'ed you are the 0.00001% of the population who is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ difficult to please. But hey, the devs are way cooler than me so maybe if you asked them directly on their discord and gave them a clear, concise "middle ground option" they just might put it in just for you pal
