What does the Gyrobot do?

The wiki just says it just gives utility, but I'm not really sure what that means. It doesn't fight, so I don't understand the use of it.

In the tinkering trial you have it activate a switch for you, it can also carry items for you and I remember reading someone say it can carry turrets as well. I'm new though and haven't tested it yet.

When you are higher tinkering level it gives many uses.
It can act as a light source.
It can pickup items, and even drop a mine far away.
It can detect monsters, traps, and exits on your map.
If you leave turrets behind, it will carry them to the next floor.
There are probably even more niche uses.
