Oh, and in the first place, if you're using it to the point of breaking and don't have enough scrap to repair it, you're wasting your scrap somehow.
Repairing the kit takes 16 metal pieces or whatever, there's plenty of torches early on, get on a rhythm/habit of maintaining it.
Alchemy kit can get ruined with just the first 3 or 4 potions if unlucky so I feel your pain, run is pretty much done for after kits break early on.
