UI and other suggestions
  1. Colored backgrounds for unidentified, cursed and blessed items.
  2. Icons at the corner of the item's image to represent item durability/food freshness/ring condition. (▼ for decrepit, ⬛ for worn, nothing for servicable, ▲ for excellent, X for broken etc.)
  3. Colored numbers to represent item quality. (green +3, red -1 etc.)
  4. Sound effect when appraise completes, different sound for success or failure.
  5. Shortcut to appraise an item, perhaps ctrl+left click to start appraising something? In any case the right click menu leads to frequent accidental equipping of unappraised and potentially cursed items
  6. Shortcut to quickly drop items. (eg. alt+left click to drop)
  7. Shortcut to quickly hotkey an item instead of dragging it from the inventory at the top of the screen to the hotbar at the bottom. (eg. ctrl+0-9 whilst the mouse is hovering over an item)
  8. Auto-appraise setting. The player will automatically start appraising items until every item in the inventory has been appraised.
  9. Setting to automatically drop broken items.
  10. Different sound and visual effects when a player is taking heavy damage.
  11. Option to pause a singleplayer game when the inventory is brought up.
  12. Option for the host to pause a multiplayer game so people can have toilet breaks.
  13. Class/gender selection screen should show starting stats and items.

Here's[i.imgur.com] a quick mockup of an inventory screen that displays more information at a glance. Barony is great but the UI leaves a lot to be desired.

A lot of these suggestions would be great UX improvements in my opinion, and several are ones we've thought about, and it's just a matter of finding the time to do the work. The keyboard shortcut options are new to me though. We'll consider these and other UI / UX improvements after the Cursed Edition launches.

Two more suggestions:
  1. Once appraised, display an icon representing the magical property or type of potion. Inventories frequently end up with multiple items with the same icons but have completely different effects. This should apply for staves, rings, amulets, potions, spellbooks and especially scrolls...
  2. "Smart hotbar" setting. When an item is used or dropped another equilavent effect, appraised and non-cursed item is put into the same slot. (eg. If I drop a broken torch the hotbar automatically slots in an identified, non-cursed, non-broken one or if I drink a yellow health potion the hotbar slots in a blue health potion)

I am very much in agreement for including more keybinds for inventory management. Shift+LMB would be nice for appraising things, would make it feel less tedious for classes that need to appraise a lot.

Also some added sound effects for when bad things are happening. Currently, starving to death is silent and quite often I see people die simply because they didn't know their HP was dropping from starving (myself included).

Shift LMB for appraising is all I really want.

A lot of these suggestions I hadn't considered and are pretty great, keep them coming. One thing that does concern me is that too much visual information (icons, colors, symbols) can make the interface harder to use for newcomers rather than easier, but we could just implement new settings to let players toggle these advanced options on and off at their own will.

Pixel dungeon's inventory screen[pixeldungeon.watabou.ru] makes use of colored backgrounds for cursed and unidentified, as well as colored numbers for item quality and strength requirements.

Morrowind's inventory[assets2.ignimgs.com] uses a gold border for equipped items and a swirly background for enchanted items.

Powder[waltorious.files.wordpress.com] makes use of colored borders to show the various item statuses.
