Uses for items
Ok.. soo this really just a minor grip for me, so i was playing the other day and i noticed that items don't really have any use. Like for example you get lock picks but you never get locked doors enough to have them really matter, and the reward behind the doors is never that big given the lack of types of metal and other things that armor and weapons are made of. I understand that the game is still being worked on but the fact that there are things like lockpicks and they have so little use or point bothers me, mainly cause you can just whale on locked doors until they break and you have no real consequence there should be a feature like in nethack where if you break down a shop door he gets pissed and trys to kill you forfiting that stages shop... this could be even better by not marking where stores are. And lockpicks are not the only item that have this issue its almost every item in the game thats not armor or a weapon or something you wear or use for combat. Could someone fill me in on if items are ever going to improved?

I think it would likely be a bad idea to not mark shop doors; the game is pretty good in giving indication or hints to help the player out.

I do agree though that Lockpicks could be better - I played recently on a Rogue and went through all 3 of them immediately trying to unlock 1 chest - only to fail to unlock the chest.

I understand what you are saying and I am also glad that you agree with a bit of my opinon. What set me off in the first place was that I was looking at skills... you have a entire page of skills, one of these is completely dedicated to lockpicking and I thought to myself "man for being able to level up lockpicking I sure do not use them often... or ever for that matter" and then I thought about other things that don't have uses and it just set me off.

you have to remmember that nearly every item has a diffrent use to it, cursued or poisoned items can be thrown at enemies for damage etc etc, I do agree that the lock picking in the game needs tweeking but at the same time you level up even when you fail so it won't take much to get good a lock picking also over things going into lock picking then just the skill itself

I mostly agree with what you say; I think we need a mod to make lockpicking more important, now that the source code was released. It isn't too big of a change, I think.
Personally I don't have enough free time or skill to do it, but someone else who reads the thread might...

90% of my games have me finding a staff of opening by the second floor, so lockpicks seem like a complete waste of time. Maybe I'm just massively lucky so far though.
