are there hidden stats to items and armor

so i started playing ninja and other light classes like monk, and rouge, and was woundering if armors do anything other then raise AC,should i stick to light armor or just pick up what ever has a higher rating

Generally pick the highest AC with the weight that doesn't slow you down too much. E.g steel breastplate will weigh a lot and rogues will struggle carrying that early on.

How much you are slowed with carry weight is determined by strength.

alright thanks, also im some what confused on what effects stealth, does lighting or carrying tourchs effect how easly enemys lose you?

Correct, different enemies have different sight ranges and being near light increases the range they can see you. Trolls for example see only around 4 tiles in full light while only 1 tile in darkness. If you stay nearby without being spotted your stealth increases, as well as attacking/killing without being spotted increased your stealth.

Oh, so I could in theory spend some time stalking a skeleton to increase my stealth?

Yep it'll go up in random intervals like swimming!
