Learning the game: Attributes?
I did a quick search and didn't find any answers, so here's the question:
What are the exact nature of the character attributes? I've gathered that they affect certain skills, but not what they do besides.

I've noticed a few things, like Strength increasing carrying capacity and it seems like increased Dexterity makes your movement speed improve, but I can't say for certain.

The wiki looks to be out-of-date, so my best source of answers is here, if anyone has the information. Thanks!

Strength: Improves your natural damage and reduces carryweight penalty
Dexterity: Improves your running speed and likely gives a bonus to the Ranged skill
Constitution: Improves your natural AC and possibly recudes ailment duration
Intelligence: Improves magic damage and gives a bonus to Magic and Casting
Perception: Improves your night vision, your chance to pierce armor with a bow, and gives a bonus to Appraisal
Charisma: Gives a bonus to Leadership and Trading. I think charming monsters is easier with high CHA too

There's a book in the game called "Character Attributes" that offers a non-spoiler guide to what each attribute is for.

The simplest way to see what they do is by hovering your mouse over them in the Tab menu. Some attributes affect your skills too, and vice versa, so hover over a skill on your skills list to see if your stats alter it.

There's plenty more to learn, but part of the fun of a roguelike is learning things for yourself rather than having others tell you every little bit about them. Still, feel free to let us know if you have other questions. I'll give a brief summary of each stat if you'd like, just say the word

neat information down here, kinda spoilery though
Stats often serve as "bonuses" or placeholders for certain skills. For example, if you have a Magic skill of 35 and you also have 5 INT, your effective Magic skill is 40.

I fail to see how explaining the nature of a basic mechanic counts as spoilers, but very well.

Hovering over stats gave me information for some and nothing to go on for others. Somewhat helpful, but it'd be nice to be given an idea of what these do in general so I can have a baseline to wrap my head around.

Dexterity increases damage with ranged weapons - and vice versa for strength! Intelligence also lets you learn spells better.
