Really depends on your outlook. I enjoy the immersion - but it is the same basic "Far Cry" game. I do not think it is worth the 60 but if you can get a discount - it is a fun game.
If you are a HARD-CORE gamer - you are not going to like it. If you want loads of weapons and deep RPG elements - you are not going to like it. If collecting resources isn't your thing - stay away.
If you like roaming in single player - like the venue of 10,000 BC - if you like a casual style play - if you like the idea of thrashing everything because you can ride a sabre-tooth tiger - then it might be worth.
I think it is fun and can see getting about 20-40 hours out of it.
Is this game a lot of fun? Yes. Is there a lot to do? Hell yes. Does it have the same sort of story as, say, a Mass Effect game? Nowhere near. Take the game for what it is - a Primal, Hunting playground sort of experience. Not a word of English is spoken the entire game and yet they still made it an amazing experience.
Warning though: Graphics are a bit twitchy at the moment, I get good framerates for the first hour but then everything falls below 50fps. I wish it was 3 months later and the game had 5 patches on it to improve performance.
Story isn't very good, but theres a LOT more to do than just the story. 3 hours in so far and I've hardly touched the story. It's kind of like a more primal skyrim, but a bit less to do. I can see someone having 1000 hours in the game if they like it enough.
It's more for casual gaming than hardcore gaming. Kind of a couch game. Just sit back and have fun!
After a few hours, I can say that the game looks good, sounds good, immersion is good. So I like it, even though it feels like an Ubisoft games usually do... (run from point A to B collecting stuff in the middle, with no real challenge anywhere). Well, I bought it for the setting, and I got what I paid for imho.
I will find out soon. But the only reservation I have (before buying it) is that trading is not included so the game will quickly become tedious with gathering and hunting for every litle bit you need.
In tribal societies you sure had trading. They traded berries and roots for meat. Traded hide for weapons, clay for arrowheads and so on. In my opinion the ability to trade should have been part of this game and is such an important factor in tribal societies that it is kind of immersion-breaking and the only thing holding me back at the moment.
Im not sure that the lack of trading will stop me from buying, Im still deciding.
Its it a stellar product that you will enjoy for 100s of hours? Probably not, but no Far Cry game ever is that good either. Still once, I am finished my hard playthrough, I am actually looking forward to what the expert level has to offer.
Would have loved to see an Ironman mode in this game.
