Survival mode for first time?

I started playing this in survival mode, but realized a lot of skills are locked out like the owl attack skills and extra health bars. Is it worth doing a full playthrough on survival or should i just play normal?

I'd personally play Hard without minimap.

Absolutely not! Play the game at least half way. Then you will have enough understanding of the game mechanics and what's best to do in a certain situations.

Survival mode was released about six months after the launch of the game. It is an improvement over the original based on feedback from the gaming community. You do lose some skills in Survival Mode, but the overall game is more balanced and more challenging. Personally having played the game in both modes, I would recommend it. I played on survival mode from the begging, Its not hard really, I think otherwise the game would be very cheesy ;p

No, I can't recommend surival mode because your beasts will die randomly. And that's it. You'll have to go and tame new beasts constantly. By constant I mean every 10 minutes since they're dumb af. Stuck on a ledge? Die. Stuck in a corner? Die. Lit a bonfire? Die. Grappled? Die. Like they literally kill themselves to unstuck.

If they ever fix it, sure. If you're cool with never playing with a beast much or dealing with the constant painful taming mechanic, go for it. But unfortunately to me it's unplayable.

I never encounterd any of that, they only die when I get ninja attacked by mammoth or rhino.

Agreed. Pets do die that often unless near a very high cliff. But even then just go find a new pett. Wild animals are everywhere at night!

Survival just makes everything more tedious and locks out certain skills. You will have to constantly farm meat to keep your stamina filled or be prepared to watch the sleeping cutscene every 20 minutes. It also takes stamina to fast travel so sometimes you will have to eat or sleep before traveling back to camp and then immediately sleep/eat again. It's not gonna make you feel like a PRO GAMER so do yourself a favor and just do expert and hide some HUD stuff if thats your thing.
