How to study outdoor cave paintings?
The ones you find out in the open and not in a cave. They have a different collectible icon - looks much like a blueprint. Whereas the ones you normally find in a cave have a hand icon and they need a source of light for you to be able to study them.

It wasn't an "outdoor painting" (which is a hunter cache location puzzle), it was the Izila mask... ))))

i know at least one of them is bugged, you're supposed to be able to interact with it but just can't

They are Hunter Caches. They depict an area nearby with an unmarked rare loot cache. You look at the painting and try to figure out the cache's location based on that.

If you already have all the village and crafting upgrades and have no need of the rare items, then the only point to finding them is to clear the collectible.

With your eyes and brain.

It's a puzzle..... and they're basically designed for 7 year olds to figure out.

I found that, most of the time, they are pretty much directly opposite of where a good stash may be. The distance may often be a bit far but, it's there. Look at the painting then, turn around and check out the areas.

I think I took some screenshots of it once. I'll see if I can find them.

Some will also tell you where collectables are located.

Go North a few hundred yards from the painting and look left (West) - there's a little alcove with what looks like a bunker between the two pylons pictured in the painting. The pylons are colored same as the painting.

childish troll alert.. Nice immature unhelpful response. Did you even read what the guy said? He didn't ask a question but made a statement, use your own eyes and brain next time before saying something stupid AF ..

Hi, this may be good or not, but I was way east of main camp taking out an enemy camp up on the mountain side (where there were many enemies inside) There was an icon on the side of the mountain (not a hand or painting), I tried everything to get to it, swinging from my grappling hook to jumping down on top (many deaths) .. I finally gave up and just threw my spear at it and to my supprise BINGO .. got it :))

They're pretty annoying. Very vague scribble referring to a place that is often nowhere near the painting. Bad puzzle.
