I need to go with you to that meeting, because it's ... it's HARD, man ... I don't like killing my animals (sniff). The look in their faces. The eyes, man, the eyes! Looking at you as if to say: But I trusted you, you bloody caveman. What the hell are you doing. Please. Pleaaase stop!!" ... And then everything is quiet ... and I can only hear the moaning of the wind ...
But seriously, am I the only one with this issue?
The issue has been RESOLVED and it's very easy. Can't believe I've missed it.
You call an animal from the beast list, then spear/arrow/club/kick/go ape-crazy on it until the 'heal' prompt appears. Then you just wait ... The white ring around the 'red skull heal prompt' will get shorter and shorter until the animal dies. (If you want to you can continue hitting the ball-bearings out of it, but it makes no difference.) Then skin. Easy as that.
For some reason I thought once you get the 'heal prompt' you can't kill it from there on, but that's exactly what happens when you're in a battle and you can't get to your injured beast quickly enough ... it dies.
