HD texture pack question
Finally the game is on sale and I finally got it, been wanting this gem for years!

One question though, I got the apex edition and I've seen an 'hd texture pack' as a dlc, not installed. Will I get a performance hit if I install it?

My specs are:
1050ti 4gb
i5 3470 quad core
8gb of ram.

Can't wait to sink in thousands of hours into this, looks amazing, optimized and interesting.

While researching more about this I have seen it actually adds a 'ultra' settings in addition to high settings so it's rather optional to use. I'll just use 'high' and not ultra, I thought it's actually an overhaul pack where it changes the textures completely.

Anyways yeah it's outdated, but never had any problems with it to run games well, DOOM 2016 works just fine with ultra settings, even better with Vulkan so this card is not that weak. Thanks for your reply!

I'm in the same boat. Picked the game up on sale and noticed the "hd textures" DLC. My game already had an ultra setting, even though the DLC wasn't installed. I installed it and ran the benchmark both with it enabled and with it disabled. The results didn't really reveal anything useful.

At 3840x2160, quality on ultra, v-sync off, I averaged 60 FPS with the HD textures option both on and off. With v-sync enabled, I seem to have about the same average either way, with a very slight drop in the minimum framerate while the HD textures are enabled. The game did seem to look better but it could have been the placebo effect. With no obvious difference in performance, I'm not sure if this "DLC" actually needs to be installed.

Relatively speaking yes it IS weak. I mean, I can link benchmarks if you are unable to Google. Doom 2016 is not hard to run either.

Why are you so condescending? 'If you're unable to google' as if I'm some sort of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ who can't do a simple google search... Anyways, played it yesterday, all high, noticed no hitching and stuttering, the performance was smooth and the game's very optimized.

And I never disagreed with you, yes it's weak compared to the beastly cards out there, but I said it's not THAT weak and can usually get the job done.

Hah yeah no idea, I didn't install it, looks beautiful with all high anyways, no need to stress the system. Thanks for your reply! :)

the game has a benchmark feature, your question is pointless, run the bench and find out

Wow, lol no one can just answer your question without bein a PenisMcJims.

Will you get a performance hit? Yes, loading in higher resolution models will tax any system. The Texture pack help the game look better in mainly 4k resolution. I cant tell major differences in models at 1080p with the Texture pack but I can in 4k.

If you dont care to run at higher than 1080p I suggest not using the feature.

I wouldnt say its outdated, doesnt really make sense. making something higher res it just that... instead of 1 pixel... you have 2! thats double the pixels!!!

Thanks Panda, the real reason I asked this is because I thought it's like a texture overhaul thing ya know? Like for example, those texture mods for DOOM 3, Quake 3, or gzdoom mods, or Quake 1 mods or whatever (yes I'm really into oldschool and don't usually play games like FC).

So the reason I asked this is because if I installed it, and by my understanding it'd overwrite the old textures, so the only way to go back would be to reinstall the game and that'd be just pain in the ass, although, maybe just deselecting the dlc at the bottom would work too.

But what HD textures do, as I understood it, add another notch to the settings where they can go to Ultra, so yeah, I don't really need to install it and I've been enjoying the game on highest details without it so far. Will play a lot more this weekend, can't wait!

Thank you for providing some solid information Panda. Don't worry cheeks, the HD texture stuff sits along side the game and is very easily removed by simply unchecking the box in the list of DLC. I tried all this recently
