The problem is that none of that seems to work as far as I can see, Survival Mode is turned off, but every time I die I lose all my progress from the last automatic checkpoint, I just found a bed and have tried sleeping so we will see about that.
But when I use the save button it seems to do nothing, if I save and then move to a different location and reload the save I don't end up where I saved, I lose all my progress again.
The quick save button F5 doesn't seems to do anything either and there is no indication that I'm saving when I hit it.
Even stranger I went to the saves folder in the Ubisoft directory and deleted all of my saves.
When I reloaded the game all of the saves were still there?
When I looked online I found dozens of people who seem to be having the same problem and the only answer was to edit the CPY.ini file to make a new save location but when I searched I did not find any .ini file in either the Far Cry Primal install directory or the Ubisoft directory.
All in all this is a pain. I'd like to be able to save my progress and not play the whole area over every time I get attacked by a bear.
And as I said I'm finding a lot of people making the same complaint.

And again, there are no "levels" in FC Primal, there are MISSIONS (or "quests" if you want). There is no obligation to go to the Tensay mission mark on the map (or any campaign mission mark for that matter) - when you are in a free roaming mode (i.e. not in a middle of any quest) you are free to do whatever you want - explore, conquere outposts and bonfires or attend any other quests marked on the map.
By level I really meant mission, I finally found the old witch doctor at the end and followed the owl and I've rescued a few villagers.
I haven't really gotten to the point that I can save by clicking the Save button and appear where I save as far as I know but I haven’t tried for a while.
F5 still doesn't seem to do anything.
But I've run around now enough that I can usually get to a bed and sleep someplace that saves the game so I recover at that location.
I still make player saves by writing over the first three so I always have a recent one, but I haven't tried loading one for a while.
I'll try that next time I get into the game and see if it reloads my where I saved or back at the base camp.
I learned to stay away from the bear; nothing else is supper tough so I haven’t died for a while.

I missed the part about disabling cloud save, I'll check that out.
Please, carefully read my guide. It is a bit long, but it will give you a much better understanding of what's going on...
You can always check whether you are in free roaming mode or in mission mode by hitting Esc - the menu looks entirely different (as shown in "Saves mechanics" chapter of my guide).
It's been a while since I've played a single player game where I had to worry about saving at all.
The only other single player game I've played in a while was the Witcher 3 which was pretty standard as to saving, before that it goes clear back to Skyrim for an non MMO.
