First Time: Can I Play Survival Mode?
I started my first ever game on Survival Mode Expert (No permadeath - ill do that later) - I am a FPS veteran and I have played the previous Far Cry Games. But of course I dont know what I am supposed to do after burying the guy and there are no tutorial primers apart from stamina.

Thing is I like the idea of survival mode and I don't want the minimap and such to spoil it for me. Is Expert disabling the tutorials or is Survivor?

Is it safe for my first play through to be survivor?

Thanks.

Survival mode is the only way to play. I love it far more than Far cry 3 and 4 on highest difficulties. But of course play without permadeath (atleast on your first playthrough).

On survival mode expert difficulty you are no longer on top of the food chain as in other Far Cry titles: you have to always stay alert, if a predator (most kinds anyway) spots you before you spot it, you are done for. You will carefully consider if attacking animal X is worth the risk and if you can take on the challenge. Of course perks and upgraded gear will help you survive, but no force in the world will save you from a Sabertooth sneaking up on you.

But this also makes the hunting aspect in this game an experience like no other (= fun and satisfying as hell).

But note that "survival mode" is probably not what you expect. There wont be any food gauges, sleep gauges, and other mechanics of actual survival games, it will only make weapons and animal far more lethal, and make your stamina to regerenate only by eating or sleeping. And it will also change how nights work, during night time you will be overrun by an ridiculous amount of predators, you wont have time to harvest one kill before another predator appears. So when you notice that night falls you WILL run (calmy and calculated) to the nearest sleeping place.

I havent tried other modes than Survival on expert difficulty (without permadeath) but I really recommend playing Survival and hardest difficulty for the ultimate Primal experience:steamhappy:

Is the requirement that you finish the story missions? How hard is that without the majority of the upgrades?Any must have upgrades?

Also If I beat on permadeath will that unlock second chance achievement? Thanks.

Survival mode was a re-release of the game based on feedback from the gaming community. It is the best version of the game no matter what difficulty you play. The best upgrades are the Long Bow, the Beserk Shard, the trap so you can carry more of them, and of course the spear your most powerful weapon. Finishing the game in permadeath does unlock an achievement, but I don't remember the name of it being "second chance."

How can you recommend something over the other when you only have experience of the one?

Animals are actually weaker in survival and there's considerably less of them but you also have less health and less ammo. The amount of predators at night is ridiculous on normal(non-survival) mode and the amount of animals in general too. On survival the amount of animals is more realistic, which makes it harder to gather the meat you need to heal and keep up your stamina, and to gather other animal resources as well. I don't really like the normal mode because it has so much animals that the whole experience is totally chaotic with all the animals running around back and forth everywhere in addition to the enemies. The only thing I really hate about survival mode is that the tamed animals die permanently and they can die from stupid things like running off a cliff.
