Yeah, plants and resources are all over the place, and they respawn, BUT...
Your tamed animals cannot be revived. AND, if they're unique and get killed, they're gone for good. Take that into account.
I read about that - which I think sucks personally. It's pretty much the main thing that kills the Survivor mode because half the time your beasts will commit suicide by either lunging off a cliff or drowning themselves in a 2 feet puddle. I've came acustom just dismissing any of my pets and only dragging them out when I need them or when I'm pretty sure it'll be safe. But mainly only using them a small amount of time at a time instead of always having one out.
The respawn rate of animals, patrols, and resources seems about the same really. I empty an area out of all the plants and dead trees, walk a few dozen feet in any one direction, then when I turn around and come back, trees and plants have respawned (in different places, at least). So, that's about the same as Normal as far as I can tell, really.
I took down a few guys near a no-name campsite, and went into a cave nearby, came back out and another patrol was walking through the area. So, about the same.
As for animal companions perma-dying, I have yet to have one lost, and several have gone down in a fight. I just run up to them and revive/heal them, then things are back to normal again. I guess if you let their health timer thing drop to zero, they perma-die? Like I said, I haven't lost one yet, and I've revived about 6 in the last 12 hours of playtime I would guess.
However if you lose a grand beast they are gone forever since they cant be revived after death and grand hunt beasts dont respawn so you cant tame another one.
Once the bleedout timer runs out and you fail to rescue your beast yea they are dead you have to tame another one (if its a lesser beast if its a grand beast its gone forever since you can't re-tame those)
They can also instantly die by falling off a cliff due to their dumb AI (no bleedout)
I lost my Bloodfang once cause it commited suicide when i wasn't looking lol
(good thing i make save backups)
