Tier 4 ships?
Do they exist? How do we unlock them?

Thanks!

You have to beat the Chimera, which will appear some time after defeating your first Chruul Spire.

Oh ok, I have been trying to farm the spire. Good to know. Thanks!

Was wondering the same thing. Thanks. My tier 3 ships are only barely beating the current cruul attackers and i am on the 2nd spire.

Your Tier 3 ships should do fine. I found it important to use two heals though: The engineer talent heal to remove breaches and other high damage dots, and the scientist AOE ship heal for constantly keeping your ships from exploding.

Can anyone tell how long the rest of the game is once you unlocked these tier 4 ships?
Getting somewhat repetitive. Having played 25h now and just defeated the Chimera.

The game continues for at least about 425 days after you beat the chimera, if you help the other alien races with the Chruul onslaught. I recommend setting up a lot of satellite drones in the relative peace after you destroy the Chimera.

Drones? What for? I actually found it to be more productive to use one commander to just collect everything. As far as I remember Drones also have 2 days of downtime. You don't have that if you are actively collecting. And fuel isn't an issue anyways.
On the other hand, got 28k dark matter...could as well build some drones with that.

By the end, I was rolling three fleets capable of handling any threat (if you count the allies) and had a lower set of officers doing resource generating tasks back at base. Plus all colonies with drones and upgraded rate of production. I figured I saved with drones by not having to upgrade capacity.

Actually Capacity especially makes sense when having drones. When you collect manually the Colonies ideally aren't sitting there on limit.
But with drones it takes 2 days once they are full until the resources are shipped. So the percentage of "lost time" is directly dependent on the amount of resources the station can gather.
To give an unrealistic example: If your station has 10 max capacity, and generates 5 per day, it takes 2 days until its at cap, and another 2 days until the drone delivers it. During this timeframe nothing is produced. That's a net loss of 50%
If you double the capacity, you make it 4 to 2 days and you shrink your net loss by drones to 33%
