Chruul spam
I'm at my first game, but struggling with way too many Chruul fleets. My T2 ships are stronger than most of the Chrull, but I simply do not kill them quickly enough before they spam 3 new fleets. Sometimes I manage to close the portal, but right after there is another one and Spire as a "bonus".

BTW, I play at the lowest difficulty, I would expect this kind of agressive AI at the hardest.

Start a new game and you will be surprised how much easier it gets now that you know what to prioritise and what works. :) I am in probably my 20th new game and each time, I get better than the last time and this time round, I managed to get to T2 ships by day 90 and T3 by the time I go to new terra on Commander difficulty. :) This game is like chess... you need to strategise and optimise and learn on each new game... this isn't the kind of game you start one game and expect to go to the end. :)
Tip: the Key to winning this game is Ship Tier... you need high level ships and therefore in order to do that quickly, you need resources, QUICKLY and you can get resources QUICKLY you need to prioritise the following actions the moment the game starts: 1) quickly colonising all resource planets 2) exploring every room in the base that you can, each exploration gives you so much resources. (That's how you should deploy your first 2 officers when the game starts). When you have colonised all the planets and dug through all the rooms you can, next thing to do is to build the officer academy to quickly get your 3rd officer and build your 3rd ship (by this time you should have a full complement of tac, eng and sci ships). When you have done that, send that fleet out to kill things... everything you kill gives you resources. ... go along this line for your first 100 days and you would have a kickass fleet with nothing to fear in no time.
i like to build at least one material multiplier before I start killing things for real because it increases the resources you get on each kill quite significantly. Also, don't be eager to close off the first Chruul portal... look at it as something generating enemies for you to kill and gain resources from! I would kill one portal only if a second portal appears. Cos then it would be too much to handle.
Key to this strategy is also the Science ship.. you need a good healer to keep killing things without spending those hard earned resources in repairs.
I would have to agree that their seems to be a need to adjust the frequency Chruul ships show up at the various colonies on Cadet difficulty setting, as it seems like they decreased everything but the frequency that ships spawn, reduce that a bit and that difficulty would be properly set as it is now there is still adjustment needed.
I am playing on normal difficulty and was happy with the rate of spawn in terms of portals/spires.

By the end of the 1st Chapter (finished last night) i had taken out about 4 or 5 portals and 2 spires.

Is this a normal rate (or was I lucky)
