What windows version do you have?
Is it 32 or 64-bit?
Is the user account an admin account?
What is your User Account Control Notification setting? (i.e. Always notify, Never notify, etc)
There needs to be a dial in facility for folks me thinks to help us out ;-((
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Muzzy Lane Software\Making History Gold
name: LicenseKey
type: REG_SZ
The value should match the CD key shown under 'View CD Key' from the right-click menu for the game in the steam library.
If it's there and the game is still popping up with a "Invalid License Key" message you could send us an email to techsupport@muzzylane.com and we can try validating the key here.
If you're getting a different message (and NOT getting the "Invalid License Key" message), there's some other problem. More information on the error can be obtained by running debugView ( https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb896647.aspx ) and have it running when you try running the game. You can save the log from there and send it to techsupport@muzzylane.com
This worked ! THX
This may be a result of "Registry Virtualization": https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa965884(v=vs.85).aspx
Did you try running steam as administrator when it first installed? Are you using an admin or non-admin windows user account?
It's probably in some "virtual registry" location specific to your user name or (vice versa) you are running regedit as a non-admin and it's hiding the key from you. UAC is annoying.
Try this:
From the steam Library, right-click on "Making History :The Calm and the storm Gold Edition"
Choose "properties"
Click on the "Local Files" tab
Choose "Browse Local Files..."
Open the "install" directory
Right-click on "MHGoldSetKey" and choose "Run as administrator"
That should put the CD key in the registry.
If you run debugView then run MHGoldSetKey.exe as admin per my previous post, it should report the results in the debugView log which should help us narrow things down.
