WiF does not provide an AI opponent. Bear in mind that. It is a one man's job of converting a monster board wargame and is very buggy. You must have a lot of love for the subject matter to put up with this game.

Alternatively, War in the East 2 is coming out next year.

Appreciate the response. Looking forward to WITE. Can’t wait to see how it plays.

Forget WiF. It's expansive and unplayable as explained by Technopiper.
I wish I could get a refund. Total waste of my money.

WITE is THE ultimate WW2 wargame (eastern front). It works great in PBEM (multiplayer server game, both sides are fun to play). Sizing is perfect, complexity is great (very complex but still enjoyable even of you don't master all game mechanics. You can just push the counters and have fun. But if you dive in the detailed functions (OOB, logistics, air ops, etc), then it's nearly endless.

If you prefer the western front there's GG War In The West. Slightly more complex in terms of game mechanics but less complex in terms of number of units on the map. Limited to 43-45 period so Germans have no chance.

There's also the Monster GG War in the Pacific (Not on Steam, have to buy it on Slitherine/Matrixgames site was on -70% sale recently). WiTP is the most complex wargame ever. Playing one Great Campaign could last 5-10 years of real life time. Playing one turn can take up to 8 hours ! You've been warned. But If you love the Pacific theater, that's the game. Nice map mods available and the game won't ;look too old !

And as mentioned: WITE2 is coming soon (spring) ! It will probably be more complex than WITE1. I can't wait for it.

WITP is still on sale ! 13.80€. But the size is frightening me.

At this price, it's a no brainer ... if you don't play now, you will later, at one point in time.
There's also a DLC [Op Torch] with some Afrika and more Italian scenarios. Not sure if it's on sale too.
Well, I an current;y discovering WITW, playing for the first time and I quite enjoy it. Of course, it doesn't have the epic scale of WITE Great Campaign but it's quite interesting and I quite like the Air system.
