Better than Madden 08?

First off let me start this by saying save the Madden bashing for another thread. Personally I don't think they've ever made a Madden even half as good as NFL 2K5 so you wouldn't get any arguments from me anyway.

Since Madden 08 is the only other AM Football game I know of on PC that isn't a management sim I have to ask, how does Axis Football stack up to it in terms of fun, customization, etc?

No worries. It was just annoying to have the thread deleted since I'm legitimately curious. I'm still going to get this regardless since it looks fun either way. Going to change the wording in my post though to make it clear I'm more asking about fun factor than anything.

The thing i have been trying to get people to understand is the opportunity we have with this game. We haven't had a pc game since Madden 08. PC gaming has grown to be quite a force since then with modders doing amazing things. With this game i feel with the community behind it and the dev as open as he is this game can be something special.

That was my mistake. Sorry about that. But yes everyone knows this game is not on par with madden and 2k. I did not want another thread with this comparison going on again. Sorry about the deletion. But this game is fun once you get use to the passing.

I only have Madden 07 but it's really hard to compare the two at this stage of development. AF plays alot faster. I barely have time to pick my defense player before the ball is snapped. Games are over way too fast too. It seems like the camera pulls away when you want it to zoom in (especially on running plays). Field goal kicks are way tooo easy even on hall of fame mode. Players do not tire out or have injuries. And a lot of others differences. For now it's not even fair to try to compare the two. I sure it's the 2016 release you'll want to use in comparing the two. Give them time to make it shine!

Exactly. This isn't a complete game. Maybe after the feature updates and bug fixing then we will have a complete game. But even still graphically it wouldn't be on par this year.

I personally can't wait to see more animations. With new animations it will open up the game a lot more. Currently you can't do anything on the d line but with animations we will have a whole new game. If we had some cool catching animations that would be sweet as well. This goes without saying but i feel this game is Early Access just without the label.

I'll be the first to say this game doesn't compete with Madden 08. It has some unique features like the aimed passing system that are really fun, but the graphics, animations, and overall quality just don't stack up.

Madden has been around since 1988... they've had years to polish and perfect certain things. We're only a couple of years into the Axis Football franchise, but we're working hard to catch up. The core gameplay is there and it's fun, but we have a long way to go to get to Madden level.

With that said, we appreciate your support and helping us get there. We'll put in the work if you guys back us up!

No problem, I can see how that would be annoying having people comparing it to Madden but I figured as old as 08 is it wasn't too unfair to try comparing it to that one, especially since this is actually made for PC and not a lazy port of a console game. The passing system is actually what interests me the most, that extra level of control looks really nice compared to madden where it's more about relying on just having a good accuracy rating and timing the throw. I know you can use the stick to influence the pass a bit but that always feels awkward to me for some reason.

Honestly graphics are probably the last thing I care about in a game as long as they aren't so bad they detract from the gameplay and that obviously isn't the case here. The only reason I even made the comparison is because I was impressed with what I saw in the store page video. :)
That said having the game actually developed for the PC platform and being active with your community goes a long way to covering any minor shortcomings the game may have so I'll definitely be picking this up in a few days when I get paid.
I'm also looking forward to that extra mod support many of the reviews mention.

If you want to compare this to Madden then you need to go back a bit further. Gameplay wise this game is comparible to Madden 99/2000. The animation quality and gameflow are similar.

Obviously that game was also made by a large team and still has a lot that is missing from
this game.

Obviously the graphics in this game look much better than psone, I am purely talking gameplay.

All in all I would say it is a good base and will only get better. Even if it is more than a decade behind Madden, EA has taken that so far in the wrong direction that they are probably no closer to the perfect footbal sim than this!

It if isn't a complete game why isn't it marked as Early Access? Just wondering, I am interested in a Football game for the PC and imo it will be judged by other football offerings like how any other game written by 1 person or a 1000 is. That's the world we live in. I'm interested in seeing how this game progresses.
