We pitched the idea of G2 as a game that will be built for modding, and will allow players to edit playing field as well as actual cards – but at that time, we didn't succeed in securing the funding (publishers loved G1 but found the budget for G2 too small or too big, but never in the right scale; some companies were looking to assign $200K and some only $5M, not much in-between).
Being a small dev team, we then first had to deal with the fallout of Spire of Sorcery, which we decided to leave in Early Access after seeing that there's no direction of development that would make sense; and later, we focused on creating a new game, in collaboration with the designer of Graveyard Keeper.
To start the production of G2, we'll need to first ship the new game, and have it be successful enough to provide the funding for G2's production; or to meet a publishing partner that would be willing to fund G2. There's good chances for each of these to happen, just we don't know when
