Toonstruck

Toonstruck

Wow, who designed these unchangeable default options? It even keeps crashing Steam!
Yes yes, I know you can change it if you mess with the executable, but my point is that they didn't really provide any type of settings/options screen for the user.

The game runs in fullscreen mode.... but at it's original 640x480 resolution with no scaling? Really? Whoever released this thing honestly thought it would be a good idea to have the game FULLSCREEN.... yet only take up a tiny box in the middle of your monitor with the majority being left blank? (Considering everyone nowadays has at LEAST a 1080p monitor, if not higher resolution) and provide no easily user-accessible options to change this?

I just got this game at half price and I still feel like I was ripped off because of this, they didn't put in the slightest bit of effort, just tossed an old copy of ScummVM with it and called it a day.

And to make matters worse, it keeps crashing Steam! Every time I quit, the Steam client locks up, thinking the game is still running!

This game was made in 1996 for DOS and the re-release didn't update anything; just like most releases.

Except that it's running in ScummVM, which is basically a virtual machine for many of these old games that has a giant amount of options you can configure. Yet, they don't let you touch any of them.... and chose the worst possible default options imaginable.

I just changed the aspect_ratio attribute in the toon.ini file to FALSE, so now the screen isn't stretched anymore.

Cyber Akuma have another "problem" - _not_ stretched screen. And binding, Steam, etc... There nosing to configure of course. Game works well. And Steam too, ofc.
ScummVM add some "discomfort" because use own default keys binding - but this is not a problem.

GOG version says that use more newer version of ScemmVM. Steam version not updated since release in 2016, GOG - from 2018. GOG did it only for Saves Cloud (new additional subfolder for saves).

Just because you can live with it does not mean it's not a problem and perfectly ok.

Also, ScummVM has been around for over a decade, it's not like thr newer version GOG uses is the only one with configuration options.

...You do realise that this game came out in 1996 right? Scummvm was included to make the old game RUN on Windows 10. Sounds like you were expecting a remaster, only to be met with the original game. The game is well worth over the steam price and you are complaining that you got it for $3.50 ish. Jesus.

Also sounds like you've got issues somewhere with it crashing your steam because I don't have that issue, although some games do stay open after closing, I'm thinking that is just a general steam issue rather than the game.

When I open the game, it opens at 640x480 but maximises to my full screen space. I know the issue you are experiencing about as it's a common occurrence with older games that can be solved with a quick google search. If it matters that much to you that you feel the need to complain, either solve it by doing a bit of research or change your desktop resolution and run it.

Toonstruck is a decent game, the one that isn't making an effort is you.

Yes, I know full well what ScummVM is. No, I was NOT expecting a remaster at all, just a port. But even with them going the cheap route and just using SvummVM, I would have expected it at the very least minimum to be configurable.

I did Google it, perhaps, just perhaps, instead of coming here being a total and complete insufferable smug jerk you can share in your wonderful and amazing knowledge instead of going "LOL Google it" if you feel I am in the wrong?

Or are you going to predictably pull a "I will not tell you, Google it yourself" style response despite that being a classical logical fallacy when attempting to present an argument as well as classic internet troll behavior?

still, google it *stretching to fullscreen* and - better - *keep aspect ratio*. There nosing about configuring games and\or emulators.

ofc on Win7 there is no crashing problem with ScumVM. That why publisher use that emul for that quest.
