Maybe the dev has an exact number?
Hopefully the game will get a 64 bit version so we can have larger fleets. But as of right now that 4gb limit with 32 bit apps is just a pain you have to live with.

Judging by your single ship fleet - it doesn't sound like a memory issue.
Do you have one with a station defense mission handy?
Anyway - could you email me a save file that most closely reproduces the crash?

The mission name was "Defend Base: Demeter."
I cant save while in the base instance, so I load the autosave it made when I entered Demeter and the mission "Defend Base: Demeter" is no longer there. It was there the first time I enter the base and then (when I load the saved game that is created to make sure the mission is there) the mission to defend demeter is gone.
This is the save. So is the mission availability not stored in the saved games? it it only with autosaves? or is it defend base missions only?
So I don't actually know if it's random to the point to where ifu load mysaved game if that mission is going to be there or not. I'm not sure hw to go about making the mission be there because I cannot save during an instance when the mission already started since it doesn't let me save in instances. Is there a way for me to force the game to save when I exit the station and start the base defense mission?

Anyway - I tested the mission several times at competent difficulty and didn't crash. Then I tested at elite difficulty and crashed. So getting as near a test save to the issue really speeds things along.
Will keep testing and trying to sort out the issue.
So I'm not certain if this is the bug that you are seeing - but its still a worthy bug to find/fix.
