Acquiring Large Ships
Since it has been awhile since I played, I noticed some changes, like many of the larger ships are no longer available to purchase (such as the BH Frigate that I love <3)

So as far as I understand you can capture ships & stations by getting in bed with the pirates. For those of us that don't want to side with pirates is there any other way to get access to the ships/stations? Grind rep high enough? Or is there another way to get the capture ships?

Thanks!

Spoiler alert. Don`t read if you like to learn by playing.

You can still "Commission" frigate class ships. They will be build in the nearest shipyard and automatically fly to your main fleet after that.

Regarding the bounty hunter frigate:

Some factions might - sometimes - have limited quantities of special ships available for purchase (bounty hunters and pirates) (similar to how black market bases work)

I think that means you can still buy it, but it is not always available.

There are still ships that are only available if you own the base, like many TSF ships.

Regarding the pirate cuddling. You can buy capture and marine ships from the blackmarket. That way you can avoid cuddling, but it will be more expensive to buy them and it will give you a wanted level for a short time.

Thank you very much!

How do you comission a ship, this is a new feature to me?

Thanks again!

It works the same way buying works, just the button will have a different label. :spazwinky:

If you want more details you might want to scan through the announcement section:

The posts talk about major updates and have dev videos to demo/etc. But just skimming the posts might be enough to get you on the right track/etc.

Will have a look Chaos, thanks. Maybe I will find out how to get my hands of a Priam, I simply must have that ship! :D
Flip Dec 18, 2017 @ 3:15am
So after seeing the vids, am I correct that the only way to get a Priam is to steal it? Drake I see is sometimes available but it looks like Priam is a steal only ship?

If you capture a base you can build any ship of that faction, even destroyers and other ships they would not sell.
Flip Dec 18, 2017 @ 7:24am
Can you do that for Bounty Hunter faction? I thought they didn't have shipyards?

If I was to take over a base, since I never done it before, any pointers one what kinda of fleet/ships I should have before considering such an understakng?

Both BH bases have 2 Priams, about 4 or so Drakes and multiple gunships etc guarding them i believe.

Might be easier to start with a Civie base first...wonder how many capture ships I would need

Post capturing a base - the player can build a shipyard, then build larger ships.

@vane, if you want to capture something, i suggest capturing beggars

they were rather easy for me to capture (had like a crew worth under 8 mil)

you'll get 500k narcotics (400k for 1 crate)
500k weapons
ability to build capture ships

Ah so you mean take out their base? Hmm idea on it's name by any chance?

Cove or derelict. Good to get friendly with them and then destroy the brigs

the base of "the kind", I forgot its name - is pretty easy to capture, too.

Thank you I will keep an eye out! I am slowly building up my economy and forces. What would you recommend would be required to take one on?

You know, In my opinion it is cool to try stuff out. Asking everything to get the exact numbers for everything kinda kills the experimentation part. It is fun to learn and you can always save and load to try again.

Visit the base you want to capture, the ships that are idling next to the base are their defend ships. After killing them you will automatically start a blockade. This blockade will lower the morale of the defenders of that base. The lower the morale, the lower the capture resistance(You can check the morale by hovering your mouse-cursor over the base) You can lower the morale to 25% if you keep up your blockade long enough. The base will contact other bases for help, so there will be enemy reinforcements.

The less morale, the fewer marine ships you will need to capture it. But there is no known formular.

I usually take around 10-15 cap ships, most times it will work when I took the time to break their morale. But that depends on the ship too, the beggar cap ship is by far more effective than the one you can buy from the smugglers, but it's unarmed.

Oh and some bases have more defenders than others, take that into consideration as well!
