Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - First Assault Online

[SOLVED] Will there ever be a good Ghost in the Shell game?
I tried warning them that it was too much like Call of Duty and they should have done something new and/or different. They had so much time to think and implement something, but now it's just another failed Ghost in the Shell game.

Will there ever be a good GitS game?

There was no philosophical depth, no plot, no character development, nothing. It was just another cheaply done FTP game. All pretty models, but no real substance. In some cases, they even cheapened the franchise (like Ubi did with R6) by adding in garbage like trendy gang-banger weapon skins, adding flames and skulls to Batou, the dumb as heck Halo knife (never once appearing in the series), or the Hellghast knockoffs for "enemies" instead of Kuze, the Puppet Master, Firestarter, etc.

This is the problem with putting a major franchise in the hands of someone like Nexxon. A franchise this important should have been given to a AAA studio like DICE or UBI. This was entirely expected simply in that regard and how many FTP games get churned out only to fail within a year or two.

Now to why this is a problem? Publishers loooove excuses. The next company that wants to try making a true, honest to god Ghost in the Shell game is going to go to the publisher for money and they are going to point to this game giving some cop out like "no popular enough". They don't look at the poor development choices like the fact that they never added in missions (which should have been the core of the game to begin with).

I don't hold any blame for the developer in this, they clearly had talent, but needed the backing of a larger, more stable company so they could get the resources they needed to truely make this game worthy of the title. You just cant F2P something this important and expect your cash stores to pay people's salaries.

I said the same thing about the disaster that was Legends of the Sword Coast. If you make consistantly poor decisions during development then refuse to right the ship as people start pointing them out, than the game deserved to fail.

So while we SHOULD get a AAA Ghost in the Shell game...we're probably not thanks to this.

Go play GITS SAC for PS2... It's amazingly done... It has good story mode...

But it's Multiplayer kinda sux, First Assault is better, but GITS SAC for PS2 is

what you want to be playing...

Unlikely, at least not in the near future.

1. GITS isn't that important right now. I don't know about Japan, but atleast in the west it's completely irrelevant. SAC ended in 2006, Arise from 2015 wasn't that popular and the Hollywood movie flopped.
2. You need a publisher and a developer. because of 1., you wont find one in the west, so you need to search in asia.
3. Even if you find a publisher and devs, you still have to make a "good game". GITS doesn't offer many opportunities to be turned into a multiplayer shooter (unlike for example Star Wars), so you need to have a Singpleplayer or atleast a PvE game (stuff like Deus Ex, Splinter Cell, maybe Metro 2033 or even Mass Effect come to mind).

I appreciate it, but I'm the type who can't get past the dated graphics, especially before the Ps3 days.

I think a GitS game adaptation would most benefit with MGS style gameplay mixed with Rainbow Six Seige gameplay, except in multiplayer, squads work together to covertly, or loudly, infiltrate an enemy base or objective, whilst the other team has to play guard duty and set up defenses, but must stay within a certain area of the objective.

A girl can dream....

A true GITS multiplayer game could work similarly to The Division except expanding on that base due to the restrictions in what you can do.

That's an interesting point that got me thinking - things that aren't popular in other media rarely become popular as games... It's kinda sad that you have to do a research on what is popular to base you game on it rather than let your imagination run free.

How did i never hear of this game. Id played the ps 1 ghost in the shell game where play the entire game piloting a tachikoma. I agree with you. This is the game they should have made.

The game could have easily used the existing content to make PvE missions. Use map x with a game mode it can have and add a 1 minute story to start and end that ties in with other stories from other missions and bam you have 10-20 minutes PvE missions. Make the AI weaker but numerous. This makes it easy to not need amazing AI. Bomb mission as easy as AI roaming and guarding in differant patterns. As you can voice chat with your team they are omnisient. When 1 gets attacked all know and enemies from say 1 room away will go their to respond. BAM. Not that complicated.

This is something I would have loved, and it does sound simple enough. Then again, I'm not particularly confident that they could have pulled off AI and bot maps without creating more issues.

Considering the playerbase response to new content overall, I'm also not convinced that people wouldn't have jumped on the inevitable flaws and bugs and decided they didn't like the game anymore.

Look at it this way?

You got a GITS Game with PS2 Graphix with amazing Gameplay...

Or you can play

GITS Online with better Graphix & with few Players...

Basically it comes down to, would you like to play a Good old Game,

or a crappy Game with Good Graphix?

I agree that we need a new GITS Game, but until we get one,

I still say don't pass on GITS SAC for PS2...

I have a hard time playing older Games, too...

But there are a lot of Older Games that are good...

All these Next Gen Games seem to be buggy, & have problems...

PS3 was the last Decent Generation... This Gen is crap...

I agree with you on this but there's nothing wrong with GiTs being like Call of Duty, the fact that GiTs was a first person shooter itself with characters from the anime like the section 9 members was simply divine in my eyes. But Nexon completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the game up with the new update, scammed players who bought the game and in-game purchases out of their money and they are running with their tail tucked between their legs. It just goes to show that as game developers they aren't quite skilled that department. I keep seeing players say that Nexon has a track record with messing up with games, some even refer others to go back to playing NeoTokyo when GiTs officially shuts down

Not to beat a dead horse, but you should check out Oni. It was a PS2/PC game and the entire thing is more-or-less inspired by GitS. The main character's name is Konoko and she looks... almost exactly like Motoko. Many other similarities, even if it's not actually GitS I recommend you give it a shot. I know there are mods out there if the PS2 era graphics really grind your gears.

Gonna resurrect this hemck'n dead thread, but if you're still peeking around for anything similar, it's not out yet, but there's a game that I cannot think of anything more close to Ghost in the Shell than this.

There's an indie title being developed called "Out of Action" that has very similar cyberpunk GitS aesthetic, it seems you play a cyborg being of some kind, and thermoptic camo effects that look identical to the show. Give it a look.
BlackRoseWitch Nov 16, 2023 @ 7:25am
There is still a way to play GiTs but it's a whole ass step process because you'll be using an emulator and you have to using discord too as well. the emulator is through discord however it will still show up on your steam profile that you are currently in-game on GiTs but in all reality you're not.

Lets put it this way?

I was warned that Nexus or Nexon has a record of
making Video Games, taking People's money, &
running with it...

I should of saw the red flag, when the Pricing on
GITS First Assault was in the $100 range for each
Character, & everything was super over priced...

People blamed it on GITS just being an expensive IP,
but I should of listened to the Warnings out there...

Everything told me in my gutt that something just
wasn't right with this Game...

The final nail that led me to believe GITS First Assault
was nothing more then just a giant Scam, was when
the Developers started removing MAPS from the Game,
& sent the Game back into BETA Stages just to incorporate
the New Weapons Class System...

When that happened? I knew 100% GITS was a Scam,
& I had to bail out of it imediately...

I never Refunded anything from the Company, & you
might think I was crazy for that, because they offered
to pay everyone back for the Game...

My reason was, I got like 30,000 hrs in the Game,
& I was just ultimately satisfied with my Experience,
so I didn't lose anything over the Game, I got what
I wanted out of the Game...

But for those who did get a Refund from the Game?
I garantee that Refund money is already lost by now,
which means they ended up with far less then I got
out of that Refund...

Just sayin...

But I enjoyed playing when I was able to have an ok Experience in Game...

Will there ever be a good GITS Game?

Not with Woke Agendas around, it's doub'tful...

Keep Dreaming...
