What? It doesn't have anything to do with SoTN, lol! It's not even a 'metroidvania'...
The pixel art and music is GREAT. Their are clear cut ways to deal with certain enemies.
For instance there is a large monster in this same level that will one shot you. I spent about 10 deaths trying to pass 2 of these with parrying their attacks. You can kill each with 3 straight parries. If you mistime it just a tad though you die in one shot. That is annoying as ♥♥♥♥. So another way to deal is bait their melee and jump out of range and do a charged attack. 3 or 4 charged attacks deal with them.
The enemy design is somewhat irritating as is the boss battles. And I am not scared of challenging games. Its just annoying. Like lets flood you with enemies that don't stop moving forward and a mini boss type enemy who launches projectiles that cause a nasty aoe but he also moves forward.
I wouldn't compare it since they're different styles of games. And combat in Slain is MUCH better since SOTN is just too easy.

That's not "annoying." That's challenge. The player has to figure it out.
