Game that bad?
Is it as bad as people make out?

I love Castlevania type games.

it plays great for the first 2 levels than it's get boring.

i dont really like the level desing of the later levels in Slain, it's some kind of boring a few traps und switches and enemies and than more enemies. it get's boring with time, and there is no really platformingskills needed.

6,5/10

Not too far into the game but it is like Castlevania and by that I mean more traditional Castlevania i.e. the first.

Music is pretty solid if you like heavy metal, the atmosphere screams a death metal album cover and the gameplay is decent enough as it is challenging but I don't feel as if it cheats and when I die/fail it's because of my own skill.

Snag it when it is on sale though. I do agree with the rating it's about a 6-7/10.

It used to be awful (back from hell is the relaunch of the original slain) but it's pretty decent now.

i never really played other Castlevania style games (or Castlevania), but i really like Slain. it's worth playing for the aesthetic alone, though i also found the controls to be very responsive/accurate playing wirelessly with the Steam controller.

i think that if anything about the game so far makes you even slightly curious to play it, then you should definitely go for it.

Slain isn't entirely similar to Castlevania but it's easy to see where it is. I think it's fun and like you might see from many other people, it had a messy launch, but Back from Hell fixed it and the reviews have been slowly but surely rising since. Don't jump in expecting a Metroidvania, though, it's a traditional action-platformer.

**EDIT** I just realized this thread is a month old, sorry for the unnecessary bump.

It's a really hard castlevania style game with very simple combat and unforgiving instant death traps galore. You die a lot because enemies do a lot of damage and there's rarely a way to restore health aside from checkpoints. That said, once you learn enemy patterns and get the timing down you can kill most stuff fairly easily. It's basically just slash, dodge, slash, dodge, get distance and use a charge attack, etc.

It's not a bad game at all but by no means is it anything special, it's basically castlevania but worse with a metal soundtrack and ultra violent metal themed imagery.
i think the game is awesome now. if you're an old school gamer, the closest thing is probably "shadow of the beast". which is also one of my all time favorite (less cause of gameplay, more cause of atmosphere)
