Final Boss recovers health and is (seemengly) unkillable,what to do?

So that, I just lost a 0-100 floor run cuz the final boss kept going down the hole and rising again with a full health bar... if it wasn't for that I would have killed him first try and I haven't seen anyone else with the same problem. I'm genuinely lost regarding what to do. Most youtube videos show the boss dying like any other mob, no health recharge or anything.

I did several complete playthroughs of this game (including the challenge modes) and I never experienced anything like that. Sounds like a bug to me.

Really weird, in the middle of battle he spews some dialogue, goes down the hole (with only his hands being risen above it) and comes back to surface with full health. Happened twice on the same run. While he has his head hidden in the hole, he still takes damage like usual.
Idk if this makes a difference, but I did the whole fight using HP potions, and all youtube videos I saw used the Heal Spell instead.

That should not matter. I used HP potions instead of the heal spell.

Are you by any chance running New Game+? I beat New Game+1 but I did not go any further. Maybe in New Game+2 and beyond the boss gets harder?

This was my first time actually reaching the boss and fighting it, so it was a vanilla run, haven't put too much time on the game. I'm gonna do a 2nd run and see if this is a bug or an actual mechanic, if it doesn't happen again I'll close the thread
