First Aid Kit
Hi there,

I was realy enjoying the game for the first few hours but I keep getting stuck on the same thing:

One of my family members (or all of them at the same time, most of the time because of a frkn bug or vent) get's sick and that seems to be 'game over' for me. I need the first aid kit I got from the 60 second challenge to give to the person that just went outside to get supplies (because he comes back sick with a broken gas-mask ALL. the. time.), and from scavenging I never ever, in the 7 hours I played, found a 'first aid kit'. So yeah, they seem to be as rare as a unicorn.

My question:

Do I just need to keep going with three sick ppl on day 11 with no way to heal them, is this bad RNG or am I missing something?

All help is most appriciated,

Roy

It sounds like you're being quite unlucky. I would recommend grabbing a bug spray if you can, as it can be turned into a first aid kit as a result of certain event. Try not to send out expeditions without a gasmask, but if it breaks, a Scout Handbook can be useful. Also try to deal with the issues in the shelter, such as cockroach infestation or stuck airvent. If you don't have meds at the time, it's best not to take risks, such as opening the door if you're not sure what you're going to find on the other side, or eating mushrooms off the walls. Another important thing is keeping your people well fed - malnutrition alone can lead to a sickness. Hope you get a little bit more luck in the future!

But sometime the events were too late.I had the bug spray but the event of turning it into a med kit didn't came up for me resulting in Ted's death.

I had a question Mr.developer,I had the gas mask that is not destroyed but Ted didn't take it resulting in Ted being sick and died. The gas mask was right there why didn't he take it? Is it random that the character will take it with them during supply runs?

Roy my friend I understand your feelings lol
If you dont want to get sick, go out on Day 20 or so on.

The character should take them for supply runs when the fallout is still outside. Was the fallout gone when Ted went out? We will check the possibility of characters sometimes skipping taking the mask, thanks!

Thank you for your quick responce and sorry for my late one. In all my play through's I only gave them a drink or food when they where asking for it (seems like a legit thing to do when you only got 4 soup and 4 water). Some follow up questions:

- Is it better to always give the family food and a drink on every day?
- Do I have a better change to get good stuff when I send my family members out when they are well fed?
- Is there a way to see if family members are well fed?

I will try to get the bug spray the next couple of play through's. Thank you for the tips and tricks!

- You don't have to give them water every day, and generally feeding them every single day isn't necessary either, but if you truly want to make sure they don't get sick as an effect of malnutrition (and you can spare the resources), you should not let them go hungry (and definitely don't let them starve!).

- While a person's health and general state affects their chance of survival outside, you don't really have to worry about feeding up specific people to send them on an expedition, it won't really make a difference.

- Well, you really wanna see the message telling you there's nothing new going on with them :) You wanna avoid the hungry message and definitely the starvation message. Apart from these, there is no other way to check their status - it's up to you to count the days since last dinner and decide whether it's time for soup or not.

From my perspective as a player :) (and don't take this as some rules set in stone, this is just the way I play, I think you can play this many different ways and it's individual) - I try to feed people every second day or sometimes even every day if I can spare it. I let them go thirsty before giving them water, I make sure to have a medkit and a bugspray and I try to save them as long as I can, only for emergencies. Sometimes it works out in your favor, sometimes it doesn't - it's up to you if you want to take the risk (for example not using the medkit on insects or insomnia, which might result in people getting sick anyway, or even insane).

Thanks alot Beren, this is realy helpful! I'm gonna try some different tactics with the tips you've given me.

Keep up the great work!

P.S. I bought the game on recommendation of mr Mack and he was right about the game being awesome :). In case you haven't seen it yet:
