If we're counting taking family members as means of defense against raiderrs (it actually is, since it prevents you from losing), you would have 6+3 = 9 different ways to defend yourself as long as your whole family is in shelter and they kidnap only 1 person every time they attack (and the last man standing is a parent). Raiders tend to come every 3 days. So that makes 27 days and all that not considering that you might find another weapon or reach the ending before that.
Generally the DLC has tweaked the gameplay in a way that the beginning is a bit easier and more manageable and the ending tends to be a bit more harsh. You do have 2 ways to win now, so the chance of coming out of all this alive is slightly bigger, even with aggressive raider presence.
6 ways?
and i am 100 % sure
