it's actually the same ♥♥♥♥, what was it, Control? where they never made a NG+ for it.. but if you start over, the missions straight up do not work. This feels almost as bad as that.
I also love exploring the Abbey and finding all the secrets, it feels a little like they put some ADN from Myst in the game and I have fun running around searching for stuff, especially at night because of the gothic atmosphere !
PS : Don't forget to pet Ebony (Agatha's Cat) when you see it, it's really worth it sometimes and petting a cat is definitely calming !
Problem with this game is that when you begin and want to experience the gameplay, you're forced instead into tons of dialogues and base "exploration" - eg running around- with very few combat and not much progression
But after some hours you get the habit of what to do in your daily Abbey routine, and only have to talk to a couple heroes, plus some plot dialogues, it's way more enjoyable
Otoh I find this Abbey stuff quite immersive, especially with some characters - Deadpool is dead fun and accurate to the lore ^^
You can skip all dialogues, (press and hold ESC) don't even bother to initiated most, Don't even run to the forge every day, Besides you only a few upgrades are really must have, like Shove. Only upgrade cards once every 4 missions or even once a week. Though if your doing story stuff you may want to do it every story mission, i prefer every other at most.
friendship lvl does not mater the game scales with your upgrades. There are lots of difficulty settings that can make the game very challenging as well when playing this way.
Not sure why everyone is so obsessed with this part of the game, if you don't like it, just don't play that aspect. Sure the game would be better if everything was in the main GUI and you popped from mission to mission, But doing the skip literally takes 20 secs between missions.
It's really annoying early game, so maybe it leave some bad taste
After 15 days I'm kinda enjoying it, the game gets better by midgame
Yes, restarting is a bit of a pain for sure, But once the game get's rolling (after spiderman joins) its not bad.
Still hit and hold esc, helps a ton, But it takes a couple hours total to get really rolling. I've restarted the game about 8 times now, Just did it again. On a side note, I still have yet to unlock the second power word, so i sorta skip a lot of the abby anyway. I honestly just never found and and just kept doing missions and thought a mission for it would turn up. Either i missed it, or it doesn't have one. All the talking still worked, and i did do a full talk with everyone, or at least up to about 60 days, so i'm sure there is a lot more to see. I like that part, but i'm often not in the mood for it so i just jam out missions.
I also don't really do the compliments system. Mainly i do easy to grab hangouts that give bonuses when i run by on the way to the mission table. Sometimes i check at night, others no. The highest friendship i ever got was lvl 5 on two people then a few mids and a bunch of 1's as I send out teams with out hunter all the time. I did one play that i never used hunter outside of Must use, that was a fun time. I tired running Midnight sun's together, and then avengers unless force to mix which is pretty fun, another i tried was go dark with midnight suns and light with avengers.
In the end i wish there was a streamlined mode. All the game really needs is another polish patch, that includes a more steamline mode and update the GUI a little and i really think this game could take off. Make the game mode play a bit like battletech. Basically that means you run a mission, pop back in base, use the GUI to do all updates when you feel like it and pop back into a mission. That game is a really good game for rolling turnbased missions and still having a great collection and upgrade/customization side of things. (the complete merc edition goes on sale for like 20 or 25 often) In case story gets in the way of you having fun. I really think that could make the sales of this game skyrocket, but i don't think we will ever see it happen.
I agree, I play slow and the first hours are really discouraging, you get too much dialogue and abbey "discovery", with not much gameplay, then gameplay seems confusing as even if it's not very complicated there's many mechanics and resources
But once you got past that , day 10 for me, it becomes much better, you only have minimal daily dialogue (unless you got main or DLC missions custscenes), and it's rather immersive
I will say, if you just skip it all, you can get through all of that in less than 2 hours, and i think it's 6 story missions and a couple randoms.
Still, the game scales so well, and the 5 difficulties, really lets you go at you own pace for upgrades. I don't think the game gets enough credit for that.
