I think he is working on other game now. MS is over.
"currently I am the game director on an unannounced project"

This does not mean, you cannot add additions in the future if you stick to the tactical application of the game. Minute you introduce additions to anything that has been done. You must alter a ton of the game, for example. I add 1 or 2 more CAP cards, a lot of animation, and combos with other character animations you have to add.
Any new character they add to the game demands a lot of coordinated programming and work with the other characters in the game. Unless they do a full expansion, even in the smallest form. It's a lot of work and it is very complex. The Base game is always there.
Firaxis and 2k let a lot of people go. Could a smaller team continue its development, sure, but you don't stay silent to that. You would release such news, even vaguely to maintain gamer interest, to keep them playing the game.
He was asked directly about Midnight Suns, not other games, not other projects. I don't' know how to read that very confusing answer. If there is nothing, you say no or we will see, but don't answer it in that manner.
What they have in mind, even if its remotely related to this game, may not be what the players want. Firaxis contract with Marvel is still active, whether simply for residual basis or to maintain the games patches. I do not see them doing a major expansion, no. Can they release something dumb, yep. We will see.
Take it for what it is.
Q: So, what’s next for Midnight Suns? Will we see a mobile port in the future? And what’s next on the table for Firaxis Games?
And, to me, he answered the last question: Firaxis has some projects going on, not that there are a couple of Midnight Suns-related projects. Wish there were, of course.
Yeah could be right Dragon, but I did not care for that answer. Here is the thing, I have been part of this industry a long time. The last thing you do is answer like that. Doesn't make any difference to me, we are done with the game. Has been unloaded for quite sometime.
You are doing something more with the game, You can say that. It inspires people to stay in the game, It builds fandom, it builds intrigue. Even if its as dumb as a Gold Collection Edition coming. That answer is as amateurish as I have ever seen. I would have chewed him out for such a bad answer like that. You do not piss off your customers or tease them ever. If MS is over, you say so. Won't make any difference in sales or anything else. Gamers are not stupid. They know when a game production is over. They do still have that contract and license. That part is not over.
However, I do think they are doing something, just may not be what everyone wants. Which sux, but that answer tells me they are releasing something. We know Civs 7 is coming, and another game, but when you are asked directly on MS, you give definitive answers.
But whatever, we will find out soon enough. Cheers my brothers.
TBH "we have a couple different projects in the works" is most likely X-Com 3
the friendship grind was a bleh concept for a superhero game tho. The fights are great but the inbetween stuff should have been better thought out during the design phase.
TBH that sounds like Firaxis have moved on
Though the new CEO and then recent-ish layoffs incl. departure of Jake Solomon and Will Miller might suggest some reshuffling going on and re-prioritising (probably on Civ given that's Firaxis cash cow).
Maybe there is still a team to work on a Season 2? IDK
-A full Midnight Suns expansion with new moves and costumes for all, new area in the Abbey to explore and some new heroes added, extends the end game by adding a new chapter.
-X-COM 3.
-Medieval Fantasy game using X-COM 2/3's mechanics where you recruit wizards, warriors, rogues, archers, dwarves and such who you can fully customise and name and who might die during their quests.
-X-Men spin off of Midnight Suns which uses the same gameplay but is fully focused on the X-Men where you get to create your own X-Man protagonist with a choice of very different movesets for added replayability.
