are they done releasing content?
Is this game dead now basically? I had hoped for so much more.

dead? it's a single player game

They are indeed done. It's now safe to assume there will be no more DLC, and probably no more patches in any form beyond a generic update to the launcher.

What?
Its not Live Service game to be dead, its Single Player game, it got few DLCs and now the game is done with content.

Rumour mill says that the game was less commercially-successful that the publishers hoped.

So now that all four of the originally-announced DLC are already released, there are no plans to make more.

It is not a rumour, even Take Two's CEO Strauss Zelnik said that.

I wonder if marketing a virtual doll house as a strategy game and leading with rave reviews from strategy game outlets had anything to do with it.

I think it's mostly because Marvel fans and strategy fans don't overlap that much. And while switching to cards might've made it more approachable to the first group, it also moved it further away from X-Com players. I myself ignored the game for quite some time simply because I have little interest in Marvel franchise (though a rather high price point didn't help either) and only got it on sale at a time when I had nothing to play. Though I have to say that I end up enjoying it way more than I thought I would.

yeah, too bad it was so unsuccessful.
in a developer stream, they clearly talked about their "first season" so at any point they had plans for another season.

I respectfully disagree. I think there is a huge overlap with fantasy/science fiction/comic-fans, RPG- and tabletop gamers and computer gamers. Go to any convention with one of these topics and you'll find a lot of individuals who also tick some (or all) of the other boxes.

However, to pick up on your thesis: The MCU plays the biggest role on how Marvel is perceived in recent years due to there being way more people who watch movies and series as opposed to those who actually buy comics. And boy oh boy has it gone downhill since Disney took over. Their obnoxious agenda pushing, badly written characters and garbage stories have alienated a lot of fans. The fact that Marvel comics has at least partially gone in a likewise direction just adds to this effect. Some people are outright done with it, and a lot of people are at least highly sceptical about new product and not as invested as they used to be. Oversaturation surely plays a role, too. So while Marvel based product can still be successful (like Spider Man or Guardians of the Galaxy 3), it has definitely become harder to hype and sell, especially when it comes to stuff like Midnight Suns which most people had never heard about before.

Strategy doesn't overlap much with this video game.

Haven't nearly all of the Marvel mobile games been some kind of strategy or card game? And there have been multiple card and tabletop games. Their strategy games couldn't be doing too poorly if they keep making them.

I wouldn't call them strategies. And they're very different games with different monetization. It's rather hard to compare a $60 PC/console game to a free mobile game in terms of "sales" or how well they're doing.

Funny enough, you would've probably enjoyed their mobile game more. 100% cards with zero "doll house" and dating. And it doesn't waste player's time at all, each battle is like 3 minutes long.

Anyway, it's not like MMS is a bad game. It sits at 82% total positive reviews and 90% recent.
XCOM2 has 84% total and 85% recent for comparison. So it's not like people tried it and didn't like it. It looks like it has failed to attract enough interest in trying it in the first place.

And sure, "Midnight Suns" is not a well known product, but the game itself has all the most popular heroes. All the Avengers, minus the lamest ones, with some all-time favorites on top. Maybe bad marketing? I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong, but I do feel that they would've sold more with an action game. Or if it was a turn-based strategy with a military/sci-fi setting and not superheroes.

Main problem I think was it didn't have good target audience. Strategy and tactics games are usually not that popular with casual gamers outside mobile. More veteran gamers were offered zero challenge in MMS even on hardest difficulty and there was just so much waste timer wasters in the game that offered nothing but miserable experience. Either create more in-depth gameplay and make game challenging or frankly make it a mobile game and focus casual crowd. Game could've definitely hit big if it had just chosen more specific target audience to develop for.

Problem is people saw this as Strategy game. This is like Marvel Snap just with much better animations and less cards. Technically this is strategy game but its like any other card game out there.

@Starmender Dunno what dollhouse is but dating...? Did you EVEN PLAY THE GAME? Literally none in there.
@RamboRusina "Waste timer wasters" care to try that again?

I'll help you though I don't know why. They're both referring to the social games and other stuff that happens back at the Abbey out of combat. That was a lot of the game. It was very different than the combat game and there was a hell of a lot of slow, repeat animations. I sort of liked that part of the game--on my first playthrough--but it was definitely more like a friendship simulator and puzzle game than the turn based strategy game. On secondary playthrough I'd like to skip all of that stuff or short cut it somehow.
