You're right, it definitely wasn't abandoned, I was just hoping for more post launch content is what I should have said. Badly phrased on my part.
But I doubt it's the last DLC given new Season Pass crazy CEO.
2K+Firaxis gonna milk MMS for all it's worth...cos we're suckers for more DLC
I'll be honest, I don't think the Season Passes or DLCs sold all that well for this game. A lot of people ended up getting the Legendary Edition at a massive discount, giving them the base game and the Season Pass content for the same price the Season Pass costed on its own. And considering they're currently working on Civilization 7, they're likely putting focus on making sure Civ's massive fanbase are satiated.
As for abandoned? Well, I suspect they'll likely continue providing patches and updates to keep the players happy.
Why did the team announce a post for a future announcement post?
I think the team sat on the twitter post for a week before announcing, to find the best way to say goodbye to the game
The game was a commercial flop.

XCOM3 is coming
The Switch cancelation is rather sad. I mean, I can see how it can be a challenge due to the touch screen, but it'd have been fun to tap on cards and dictate movement through your fingers rather than by a controller.
XCOM Collection was also released on touch screen - so wouldn't definitely see a challenge for this game to be on switch except for poor sales.
Making announcements like this does nothing to help their cause, Now anyone thinking about grabbing it will say, It's a dead game and wait for a 10 dollar sale. Talk about BAD marketing
Who's dumb idea was it to market a game with a season pass on day one? release a game, patch up the game, add a little to make the players know they are working on it, and then drop a pass 6 months or a year later. because if your going to to it that way, you at least need to cut the price. Base game 30-40, pass 25-30, which makes it just a hair over a AAA game, not nearly double the price.
This was just a colossally bad marketing, especially for a super hero game. Maybe they will learn something from this, but all i see is a massive blunder. Also, People don't like live games for the most part, for every one that works there are tons that don't. Looks like they just wanted to make bank seeing marvel movies make so much cash and saw a gold mine, and forgot that games are different.
I'm not blaming the devs, I'm blaming an incredibly bad marketing plan and dev cycle management and thinking they are planning to make 100's of millions verse the game dictating what it should be making.
