The writing is just ruining the experience

I'm not one to comment on games, usually I take them for what they are, play them through, and move on. If the game is good, I sometimes revisit them (like the first Metroid, System Shock 2, Baldur's Gate 2, etc. or when a nice remake/remaster comes out).

But this game... I have to comment on the writing. It's bad. So, so bad. Everyone is a traumatised weakling, constatntly bickering about nothing. Or just reacting with bad jokes (there were attempts, but none of them landed - they were like jokes an 8 year old tells you). And it's not just that - there are an oceans worth of dialogue, that is just part of the game. My 75 hours of playtime on record right now, like half of that is this weak, unintelligent ♥♥♥♥. It's atrocious. I started to phase out recently during one of the converstions, and got really angry by it. I started to skip the dialogues, because it's really hard to bear them.

I will finish this game, but my god... Whoever wrote this game - please, get better, or do something else for a job...

writing for Venom and Deadpool is really good but yeah, some base game heros are just sad. I mean...that Ghost Ride dude with his coming of age problems is the worst. I would have prefered the original in the team instead.

the usual target audience for Marvel are kids but the tactical combat is more interesting for mature folk, of course exceptions as always but still. that doesn't match well.

I straight up speed read the subtitles, and try to get through it as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, this isn't all that different from modern comics in terms of writing quality.

I'm not playing the game because of Marvel comics. I haven't read a single one since the late '90s (I've read the old ones at the start of the '90s, when everthing came all at once to Hungary). I'm playing because I'm a big supporter of Sid Meier, and the software houses he founded. Been playing their games since Civ1, played through Pirates!, Colonisation, Alpha Centaury, all the CIv games, to XCOM2. And this was not what I was expecting from the team of Jake Solomon. At all.

To those who say "It's fine because it's on par with some comics", I say that's not an excuse: there's comics that're well written, and there's games that're well written. This is a comic-licensed game that's not well written and it really shouldn't be allowed to pass since this is a story-driven single-player game.

I do agree with ya, IRMcG. The level of "woke" in this game is rather miniscule, rather than the implied romance between Agatha and Caretaker or utilizing transgender pronouns. Other than those two, it's actually less woke than some comics being published.

Some of the writing is bad, but the only thing I really can't tolerate is Caretaker. My version of Hunter would have taken her head off by about the third or fourth day, if the game permitted it.

Some of the writing is cringe, but I think the voice acting and the personality of the marvel characters are done well. I don't know much about the more modern character personalities (Nico, Magik, Robbie), but the others feel like they are from the comics (Tony, Cap, Spidey, Hulk, DP, Venom, Strange, Blade, for example).

im sorry was it ment to be implied there literally the fun and strict parent cliche or maybe its because i explored the abbey and found all the notes hard to say which whatever isnt really woke well i guess it is since anything conservatives dont like is woke like when lego made cripple and down-syndrome lego characters and that guy with the hots for female M&M started whining about lego going woke.

If there's one thing you should have learned about Marvel comics by now, its that you don't need to be a hero to do heroic things. Have you forgotten that Deadpool literally assassinates people? Venom eats brains!

those are anti heroes not heroes i know kinda splitting hairs but i think killing your aunt cause shes a alot over protective and really strict is a little much like is she annoying at times yes but never even close to te point of murdering her and then getting killed yourself because lets be honest despite some of the problems other members might have with her they do genuinely care for each other and killing her would have them on you like flies on a corpse
